News in Hollywood travels fast!

I am happy to confirm that it is indeed true, Sony Computer Entertainment has signed a deal with Columbia Pictures for a movie adaptation of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and it will be produced by Avi Arad, Charles Roven, Ari Arad and Alex Gartner. We have been working with Avi and the folks and Columbia for quite some time and look forward to sharing additional details on the film in the short future. Obviously we designed the game to be a cinematic experience and we too can’t wait to see it on the big screen.

So, who do you think should play Nathan Drake?

Avi Arad of Marvel fame will be turning one of the best games ever into a movie!

Sounds like a good choice, I think if they get in a good director and writer they will be set. No Uwe, or Ratner please.

Ya but I don't like the idea of turning games into movies when the game itself is practically a movie. Same goes for MGS.
That's not a diss on the game. I just mean it's a real cinematic experience with voice acting, etc.

I really don't think Uncharted needs a movie.. Just pump out more Uncharted games

Did read the guys resume, looks like he has some great movies and some reallyk crappy ones.

I mean there's nothing wrong with that, I just think Hollywood need more fresh material.

Anything that promotes the game(s) is fine by me. If it's a good movie too then all the better.

That's true, for a game as underrated as Uncharted, I'm surprise someone in Hollywood even have their eyes on it. But like you said, if this movie does get made, more promotion for the game, and thus more for the game's sequal, for Naughty Dog and the PS3 in total. It's a win win.

Indeed, I figured more National Treasure meets Pirates of the Caribbean.

It should make for an entertaining movie, only I wished it was Jerry Bruckheimer producing it. That leads to other complications though...

You have a good point. Some games are so perfect cinematically that any further adaptation will kill every aspect of it.

However, there are other games that make great movies. Some so good that people end up referring to the movie more than the game. Tomb Raider for example. And Max Payne looks so awesome. And I think Max Payne will turn into a series franchise.

You know what I thought they should do? Make a completely NEW story for the movie... like a prequel. It leads up to the events of Uncharted.

Hopefully the movie will be closer to the game than the Resident Evil movies.

We still need a good movie based on a game. I love Uncharted, but game -> movie always sucks

I thought that the game was really good, but I think they should let it be and not potentially ruin Uncharted's good name.

As I replay the game in my head, I don't even see it being a good movie as I found that it was the graphics and gameplay that appealed the most to me and storyline last. Don't get me wrong, I find Uncharted to be one of the best games for the PS3 and like it a lot.

i think gaming movies are going to make a turnaround, lot more "movie" like content being thrown into games these days.

Bioshock, Drakes Fortune and Metal Gear Solid all have awesome stories and can easily become great movies.

I will note that Im concerned about God of War.

As much I like MGS, I can't see how to do a good 2 hours story... each games have almost 10hour stories...

I hardly see how could Uncharted be much different from Tombraider movies

i was thinking kojima would have MGS run closer to 3+ hours. if you havn't noticed the man is completely out of his mind (but in a good way) and really doesn't care how long the movie is as long as he gets to tell the story in the best way.

they could cut out a lot of the codec stuff and trim down a lot of the cinematics. i think they can do it fine.

I wonder if they'll get the voice actors from the game to play the characters in the movie... I mean, the characters were made to look like those people, so why not.
