Default Recommending a TV for my dad!

He's got a budget of about £3000 and is looking in the 42-52" range. Only condition is no plasma, my mum watches a lot of daytime TV, and I don't think she wants to draw the curtains during the day!

So what's the best TV to get?

£3000 is similar to spending $5000 in the US!

And no plasma!

the 7 series Samsung will have more glare then the Panasonic or Pioneer plasma. because they removed a filter to jack up the contrast ratio. they make two models 730 and a 750. the 730 will have 20,000 less contrast but will have a filter for glare. At least the Plasma has a anti reflective filter.

If plasma is out, and with your budget, SONY XBR line would be the way to go.

Definitely the Samsung LED line.
Blackest blacks you can get on a non-plasma and motion resolution that far exceeds regular LCD's.

Sounds like it would fit right in that budget too.

Here's Gary Merson's review of the 40" LED model

Hmm. I am definitely going to go for a LED, but not sure if white or RGB is the way forwards.

I heard the difference is pretty minimal, and the price difference isn't, but I haven't had the chance to see an RGB LED TV other than at trade shows or in Sony's UK HQ...

Just looking at the Sony UK site, because the model numbers are different, but specs are fairly similar to US models. Look at these three Sonys.
