Default Waterworld Extended Cut - Nov. 4th DVD only?

I just saw on Amazon where they are releasing the extended cut of Waterworld that has ran only on television in the past. Does anyone know why this isn't coming on Blu-ray or if it is going to anytime soon. I believe it the theatrical cut was released on HD-DVD so I had hoped it would come out eventually. I know most of you probably don't care but I actually enjoyed the movie quite a bit, and the extended cut from what I recall did actually add some good scenes to the film. I really don't want to buy it on DVD but I will if there are no plans to bring it to Blu-ray.

I'd buy it. It was a crappy movie, for some reason that I cant understand, I liked. I liked it a lot, even though it sucked.

I thought Waterworld was great. I didn't know there was an extended cut, but would love to see it on Blu-ray.

Also, I had no idea there were at least two other people who liked this movie.

DVD can have it. I wouldn't buy this on blu-ray. If someone gave it to me I would sell it so I could buy something better, BUT......

I am glad for those of you who do like it, and I hope it does come to Blu-ray just for you.

Hey guys, you're not the only Waterworlders out there. I too loved this film from the start (and I'm English), I even planned one of my vacations just right so I could get to see the Waterworld stunt show at Disney. Nothing would give me more pleasure than seeing the extended cut on Blu-Ray and as a release would be thru Universal let's not give up hope just yet.

I agree with what someone else on here said. I thought the movie sucked when I first saw it. I still think it sucks but for some reason everytime I see it on cable I can't stop watching it. I don't know what it is. Maybe there is a subliminal message in the film that gets me hypnotized. Just kidding. I seriously watch it whenever I see it on. Weird.

Is this just a studio assembled extended cut made from available deleted scenes or is this actually the fabled Kevin Reynolds Director's Cut? For those who don't know, Costner pretty much took over post-production when he didn't like an early cut of Reynolds' (Costner had lots of post-"Dances With Wolves" clout back in the day), and the theatrical cut was essentialy Costner's cut. What makes this interesting is that it was the second time Costner did that to Reynolds (the first being Robin Hood).

I think it is the 3 hour cut that ran on television several years back. I do not know who's cut it is, but I would assume in was Reynolds' cut.

I'll probably buy it as well. I liked it in the theaters. I think that part of the reason that it got panned by the critics at the time was the fact that it was the most expensive movie made till that time. If memory serves me, I thought it cost somewhere around $320 million to produce.

I like this movie alot as well and never understood why it's hated so much. Friends or co-workers who've panned this movie in the past never really seemed to have a good reason to hate it. It's a fun adventure movie

Universal has annouced a lot of new special edition DVDs lately, but have not had a day-and-date blu-ray to accompany them. Stuff like Psycho, Rear Window, Touch of Evil, Vertigo, Animal House & now Waterworld... Odd since Waterworld already has an HD DVD release for the theatrical cut, so maybe they're working on putting the extended cut in hi-def.

It'd be a day 1 purchase for me... I had it on HD DVD too. I love the movie, never seen the extended, but I've always heard it was pretty substantial.

It's not coming to Blu at the moment, but I'm hoping that, at the very least, they make it the extended cut when they do decide to bring the film over to Blu.
