Default 550 7.1 analog question

I just wanted to know what the 7.1 analog on the Sony 550 meant. If you use a receiver what does it matter. I don't understand this.

Not all receivers have HDMI so if you still have an older receiver you can hook it up with analog connections to still enjoy 7.1 audio.
