OK..... so I got new furniture in my viewing room, which revealed the previously hidden speaker wire running up the wall to my wall mounted surrounds. So, I started shopping for speaker stands to hide the wire in. I quickly realized that decent furniture quality speaker stands that allow you to run the wire up the base were at least $100 each. Which of course got me thinking...... for that money I could get some cheapo towers for the rears and probably have better sound than the Klipsch S1's I was using.

I stopped at Best Buy today to start fleshing out options...... and low and behold.. set up in their listening area..... a pair of Klipsch F1's on open box special for $150 each(regular $260.)

While waiting for a sales person, I did a full inspection and saw only one minor scruff that will probably clean off with a good polish. They had them hooked up as mains, so when the sales person came over I had them crank them up so I could make sure there were no sound defects. They sounded great.

All in all it worked out great because when I came up with the idea of using towers for surrounds, my first thought was the F1's because I have the F2's as front and a C2 as the center. But I didn't want to pay over $500 to replace the rears I just bought 3 months ago.

The wife won't be THRILLED, but one thing she definately understands is 50% off....... LOL

That's sis actually, but thanks. I'm so proud about it I want to pass out some cigars.

I just hooked them up and ran the Audyssey on my receiver. I was slightly dismayed to find out that I would have to leave my fronts on full band if I wanted to run my rears as full band. I was thinking full band in the rears would help flesh out the bass a bit more in my room. So I set my fronts on 80hz and put my rears on 40hz.

I put in Resident Evil Extinction. The first ten minutes of that movie are great for showing off sound. I was surprised about how much difference full size rears can make. It made the whole sound field a lot more even; and the extra bass really shakes the sofa now, without sounding too bassy or distorted.

I also picked up Indiana Jones so I'll be watching that tonight for the full test run.

The towers are pretty close to the sofa in order to clear the doors that are on either side of the sofa. Surprisingly, they don't sound bad there. It's perfectly fine for watching tv and playing video games. I left myself enough free speaker wire so that I could kick them out to the sides more and give them a bit more distance for when I watch blu's.

SWEET! This is a fine example of why my wife always insists that I DON'T go into the electronics and specialty stores...

Wow, that's kinda close with the 2 door ways. Did you have to move the sec. abit?
Also,

You havn't mentioned it but know you have 7.1 surround. Guess you gotta find the proper place for the rears.

Well that room has been really hard to set up as well as I have it now. It's about 30' by about 14' and has five doorways. It's been a constant back and forth between aesthetics and performance. I finally think the positioning of everything as I have it now is the best compromise I can make between aesthetics and performance in that room. When my wife comes back to town from a business meeting, I may try to see if I can move the sofa about a foot out from the wall without sacrificing any tv viewing quality.

I'm going to stick with 5.1 because I can't even imagine where I would put 2 more channels and because I use those extra channels to bi-amp my fronts. I'm either going to use those S1's as fronts in my game room, or maybe even give them to my mother to replace the fronts in an old HTiB I gave her.

Looking at the pic I see the perfect spot for the other 2, that's why I mentioned it. I forgot you said in another post the fronts are bi-amp.

I have a question now. Have you heard a huge difference with the F'2 bi-amp'ed and not? If so what are you getting out of it? I already have the 7.1 setup in my apt. and it's a little late for me to try out the bi-amp.

Aside from getting higher volume levels, separating the highs and the lows give you better stereo imaging and cleaner bass I think.

I haven't told the wife about the new purchase. She comes home from her out of town meeting today. We'll see how long it takes her to notice...... LOL

Ahhh my beloved Annie. Her father was a shar pei, and her mother was half shar pei half pit.

I never can imbed webshots images correctly

yeah...... I had to use some color match touch up paint when I moved my entertainment unit and shelves. The first time I used it I painstakingly feathered the paint out and the match was 100% perfect. So the next time I didn't feather it out like I should. The difference in color for some reason stands out much more in the picture than it actually does in the room.

Way to make someone feel welcome by making adolescent comments about their sexuality and have absolutely nothing to do with the discussion...

Grow up

Nice setup btw... its a pain cramming stuff into a small space - we had to squish like that in our apartment before we bought our house... but luckily, one speaker was on an outside will not interfering with the walkway and our dining/living room was one big area, so our surround backs were actually tucked against the back wall of the dining area

They are really comfortable. I was pretty worried because I ordered them over the net without being able to sit in them first. The only HT furniture they carry around here is Berklines and I didn't want to go that high. But I read as many reviews as I could and decided to go ahead and order. I'm glad I did.

My wife came home today. She wasn't surprised to see new speakers..... LOL

The pics look great. Glad that things worked for you. One thing that really grabbed me in the second pic, you have fantastic cable control. The cables from the different componants is almost un-noticeable. Amazing.
