Default Choosing a bedroom tv: Advice

Decided to put an hdtv in my bedroom

I have it narrowed down to the selections below, just wanted my blu ray homies to give some input on which would be the better choice. I've never owned a plasma, but i've been hearing good things about certain models lately, plus my bedroom has very little light ( one window covered with black curtains ). I'm a fan of the bright lcd display, but am also looking for better black levels. Tv will be used for Blu's and Football. Any other tv recommendations would be great. I'd say my spending cap is $1,500ish

Thanks for any input

Samsung LN40A650 40-Inch 1080p 120hz lcd

Price: $1,297

Panasonic Viera TH-42PZ85U 42 Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

Price: $ 1,087

Panasonic Viera TH-42PZ80U 42" 1080p Plasma HDTV

Price: $ 947

That's it? Get a 60" plasma.

Either of the Panny's would be great. I sure love my Panny! The Sammy LCD is a good choice too, but why spend more on a smaller tv with slightly weaker blacks and off angle viewing problems? The only advantage I would see with the Sammy is if you had an extremely bright room, and even that might be minor. The glare on my tv is pretty minor when I watch tv with the lights on...certainly no more than when I had a CRT. Not to mention sports are great on plasmas...no motion blur like LCD's.

I agree. /\

Don't get the Samsung unless you plan on putting out the money to buy one of their higher end models. I've heard the viewing angles were lacking with the lower end models. I've also heard some reports of haze. If it's not an 850+, avoid. That's just my personal opinion though. I'm also extremely cautious.

Id go with the cheaper Panny. Unless you really want a lot of flexibility to configure the Panny, the 85 is not worth the extra dough.

Panny, without a doubt. Pick the one that has the features that suit you and your needs, and enjoy!

Why would op be worried about viewing angles when the only time they'll be watching the tv is when they're in bed .

I have my tv on in my bedroom whenever I'm in there, and I'm not always in the bed.

so i decided on the 85u series...but the prices are throwing me off.... 1k for a 40 inch.. or 1500 for a 50 inch...hmmmmmmmm.... i'd rather get a 50 inch so i dont feel like i need to upgrade, but again, 50 inch would be huge in my room.... what should i do!

now talking 50 inch, i'd rather get a kuro lol !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

to many choices!

i'd wall mount it, but the only wall i could hang it on, is the same wall my 52" living room lcd is hanging.. i'm assuming its a bad idea to have 2 tv's hanging on the same studs lol

This is what I would. Buy a bigger tv for your living room. Then take your old tv and put in your bedroom.

50 inch 85U is also 1497 lol

only tv i'd upgrade over my current living room tv, is the kuro 6020, but i dont feel like spending 6k on a new tv lol

i think 50-52 would be overkill, i'm still debating

ah. I should have checked the price on the 85u but i thought it would be well over $1500

if you think the 50 inch is to big the 42 inch pz80u is only $850

and you would be saving over $600

I think 42 inch is good size for bedroom..but I am sure many would disagree

50 inches is giant. it'll look ridiculous once you get it in your bedroom. 50 inches doesn't look that big on a wall at best buy, but don't be fooled. but if that's what you're after, than do what you want with your money.
