Default upgrading to a new tv... need help

hi guys im trying to upgrade my 720p 40" sony bravia to a bigger size perhaps the 42" or 46" sony v series. you think ill be ableto tell the difference with the 1080p? i was planning on selling the 40" and just paying the difference on what tv i was gonna get. thanks in advance

Depends on how close you sit to the tv. 1080p becomes extremely nice at 50"+, or when you are sitting like 5 feet away from a 40" lol. Very small difference if you are 8-9 feet away with a 40", just depends on if you budget allows for a nice 1080p set.

Agreed, I have a 42" 1080p and can't tell the difference between the 1080p setting and 720p setting. Really need a 50" or larger to get the full benefit of 1080p.

Ummmm, 1080 lines of resolution is 1080 lines of resolution. The 1080p vs 768p debate is whether or not you will notice a difference in picture quality feeding the same signal (whether it be 720p, 1080i or 1080p) to two displays with different resolutions. This is totally dependent on screen size, viewing distance and the viewer's vision. My 58" 768p set looks great to me at 10-12'. To others, they may see SDE due to the lower resolution, but I do not.

It really depends on the person and distance.
