Upgrading HT on the D-L...

Just wondering if anyone else here does this?

Normally, my wife does not care as long as it is MY money I'm using to a point. Sometimes it can be difficult to know where that point is though. She may say sure to 2 new speakers to go 7.1 but no to new wire, anyone else here get that?

Have an Onkyo 674, which is an amazing receiver but does not have pre-outs and I want to get an amp for my birthday (which she know about and has okayed). What she does not know is that I have to get a new receiver to do this. She does not get real involved with my gear to know exactly what I have so I'm upgrading the receiver to the 806 so it looks nearly identical and hopefully no harm, no foul!
