Default Do I need to update firmware?

Here's a newbie question for you...
We tried watching 'Baby mama' (forgive me) the other day and for the first time since owning my BD player (Sony 300) - it would load the menus, search and all else - but as soon as the movie itself would begin playing - the entire machine would restart. I tried several different chapters, cleaned the disk and then played a few other of my personal BD's.
Anyone recognize this as a firmware issue or have any other help for me?
Thanks.

When was the last time you updated?

The most recent update was v4.2 in august. It added truehd encoding as well as compatability issues, so I would update just for the audio update if I were you.

I definitely will -
This BD had a feature I haven't noticed before also - "Ufeature" or something like that. Another interactive program of some kind. I couldn't seem to turn it off - so I wonder if it is addressed in the firmware update.

U-Control, it's Universal's BD-Live/BD-Java interactive technology. I don't know if the update adresses any issues with U-Control on the BDP-S300.

did you get it from netflix?

the copy I had was skipping and getting jammed up after 5 minutes of playing and when you looked at the disc with the light reflecting off bottom at an angle you could see it had a clear manufacturing fault. the disc had a dent in it which could not be caused by human hands. looked like a tiny vortex in the disc, like space and time was being bent .

I let netflix know about it but I refused a new copy for some reason. my wife still *****es about it

Most likely, it is not playing properly because your player neewds a FW update. Go here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...pl?mdl=BDPS300

Follow the instructions carefully and update your player. Contrary to info above, the latest FW is 4.3 which was released last week.
