Here is the link.
This is sooo stupid, all they want to do is cash in on the second hand market because developers make no money from it. Does Nissan make any money after i sell my car second hand? How about any housing company? How about anything??? No! I hope this fails big time. dumbest idea i have heard of so far with regards to DLC. |

I believe that Epic is already discouraging buying their games used. GOW2 came with 5 redone maps from the first game, available for free via a code you can redeem thru XBL. The code can only be used once. Therefore, whoever buys the game used will find that the codes are most likely used up. Their only option would be to pay for the DLC to get those 5 maps (unless I am wrong and they offer them for free, which seems doubtful).

It's just talk. MS and Sony would never let them do a thing like that for the negative press they'd get for it.
There are other ways to increase sales through DLC that don't encompass gimping the game for renters. He's just on a soap box. |

industry backlash.
when you got major stores like gamestop encouraging gamers to purchase used games and a troubled economy where players are more likely to save a couple bucks and go used, EPIC has to create some sort of incentive for players to purchase NEW. I disagree with their DLC incentive, but look in the future for more goodies to be bundled with pre-orders, limited special editions and "NEW" purchase incentives as ways for devs to avoid the shape the market has taken. I don't think this DLC idea will last or be accepted. |

I hope you're right, but I have a feeling that this stupid garbage might be acceptable to them unless we take a stand against it. Remember how stupid the idea of episodic gaming was back in the day? Well, they're doing that now, and it's still retarded.

MS and all the 360 piracy is going to ruin the gaming industry.

Yeah they would face huge industry/consumer backlash for trying something like this.
Most of my games were bought new, but I do buy the occasional used game and I also occasionally sell a game I didnt like. No way would I ever put up with this crap. Epic blows |

hmm, spending time, resources, and thus money to limit the secondary market by implementing mandatory DLC for all but original purchasers, or using the same time, resources and thus money to make your game that much better, thus bringing in more of the primary market....
what a wise choice epic made there ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Not sure I completely disagree.
When it comes down to it we know the game market is much smaller than the movie market - and I'd wager a larger group of gamers partake of rentals, used games, and piracy than movie watchers do. So when 20 people play the same copy of the game from blockbuster instead of buying it, I'm sure it does seriously cut into their bottom line. While the DLC thing seems odd I can see why the thought is there. Worse yet, imagine if they shipped each game with a DLC code and no DLC purchase at all - no renting or second hand sales period. I wouldn't be surprised if we continue to see more things go the way of the MMO or downloadable games. Who cares how much Blizzard sells the WoW box for - first or second-hand, you still pay to get onto the server. Lets be honest, there are lots of games that provide good entertainment for the money, but have limited replay value at best. If you like those and want to see them continue, you're probably going to need to fork out the cash to support them. (I wouldn't be surprised to see someone wise up soon and make a game like Halo 4: Episode 1, and then sell additional "episodes" as DLC so that when all is done you paid ~60 for everything. That way you could get the benefit of the bulk of the game stored on the disc but it would still discourage/mitigate renting and used copies.) |

I can guarantee that this would backfire 1) people could stop buying their games 2) hackers could start a vendetta against epic, and end up making the piracy situation even worse |
