Angry PS3 red light!! ...Help

So I bought Hellboy 2 today hoping to watch it tonight and tried to turn on my ps3 and all I get is it not coming on and red blinking light!!! AHHH Im so aggravated! I looked online and pretty much saw that means its dead. I have an original 20Gb model and an upgraded hard drive. I called the walmart repair center from which I purchased my warranty and they said it will take 3 ****ing weeks to get back to me!!! There goes watching The Dark Knight on time... Anyway I was wondering if I should put my old 20GB hdd back in before I send it off or if you guys had any ideas or options for me? I appreciate any help as you guys ROCK!

Since it is still under warranty, slot in the original 20GB HDD before sending it off.

well I got it right after the launch and I bought the first one I saw. lol Anyway I dont want one of the newer ones cuz it cant play older games and is missing 2 usb ports that I value for playing Rock Band. I know I could just buy a usb hub but really would just like my good old formely reliable original PS3 back

I upgraded my 20gb model to 120gb. It's my favorite PS3. I love the all black look. My 60gb model just plays movies. The 20gb model gets used for EVERYTHING. Since it's hooked straight to the LAN I don't need the Wifi. Don't need media slots as the USB ports work great.

Sorry to hear your PS3 will be gone. Have a spare one on hand in the event of a disaster. These units are fairly reliable.

Do you guys think the issue with the PS3 RROD is caused by switching drives?

Nah my friend 20gb had the same thing.. about 1 month after he bought it. It was the PSU that was damaged inside (giving not enought wattage anymore). The exchange was very fast...

This may be an obvious question, but did you try another movie or game? Hellboy II gave my 60GB a bit of grief on the first attempt.

Why would you send it in to Walmart repair service anyways? I wouldn't trust them to repair it. Who knows maybe you get it back with a SDVD drive instead of BD
If you bought it right after launch there is no more warranty left anyways.

Contact Sony, they should be getting it done faster.

I just had to sent in my boss' 80GB (less than a year old). The BD drive died.
You can fill out a form online and get a box sent via UPS to pack it in and ship to them. They said it will take about 10-14 days.

I also have a 20GB since launch and upgraded the hdd to 250GB about 2 months ago... no problems so far (knock on wood).

does it allow you to do a system restore?

if not, try unplugging the HDD and plugging it back in.

As far as I know when you put another HDD in it automatically formats it. Whether that still applies when removing and re-inserting the same drive I don't know, but the pessimist in me says that it will! So the fact you can't turn the machine on means you can't backup so you'll lose everything. I may be wrong though, hopefully!

A 20gig has backwards compatibility with PS2 games. Also, he's already upgraded the HDD to something bigger than 80gigs.

A repaired 20gg is much better than a new 80gig

when you get the red lights on the ps3 it becomes unusable no matter what you do unless you can do some kind of system restore or something like that

No. All 3 of my PS3 60gigSKU's have 320gig HDD's & they have had 120gig & 250gig HDD's also. I have never had a problem ( knock on wood )
