Default Blu-ray Packaging

Why are blu-ray's packaged in that cheap plastic now? First it was a couple copies here and there, but now they're all coming in that rough-edged, do-it-yourself type shrink-wrap. Has anybody else noticed this?

Your talking about the plastic you throw away?? If so, I like it better... easier to open.

Not trying to be an ass, why do you care?? It goes in the trash in 1 minute. What pisses me off, is when I get a broken case with a chip out of the corner, a security tab on the side that doesn't latch, or worst of all... a the center tab that holds the disc secure is broken!!! Normally I would take it back, but I order 90% of my BD's from amazon now.

The reason I care is because that was my way of knowing whether online private sellers on Amazon or eBay shrink-wrapped their used movies and claim it to be brand new (which they have done multiple times in the past, it's infuriating). Now, I have to look even closer for other things (such as no sticker along the top). The factory-seal with the folds on the corners show more authenticity from that at least.

Ok, I get it now. I have never bought a used BD before. Makes sense.

I guess in your circumstance that would be annoying.

My concern is that I've bought BD's from J&R that were wrapped in cheap plastic and made me think they might be copies or knock off's. I've yet to watch 300 but it looked like it might not be an original. When I watch it I'll report on it's quality.

The plastic used by stores to re-seal the discs usually has a different texture than than the factory sealed discs that use a similar soft plastic.

Of the main studios, I've noticed that Paramount uses that 'cheap' shrink wrap (i.e., non-folded) most often.

As long as the case is in good shape I'm fine with either.

I never buy online. I've only bought one movie online and that was The Dark Knight. And I only ordered that because the store was shipping early so I got my copy 2 weeks ago.

In addition to cheap shrink wrap, Paramount also uses cheap paper for their covers. Out of all the studios, they are the only ones were some of my covers are wrinkled. I hate that.

Dude, I know exactly what you mean. The last 3 blus I bought from Amazon (from the current B2G1) all arrived with broken cases. Not much I can do since the discs are all perfect, but that just irritates me.

Wait, J&R is a respectable company, isn't it? I recently ordered two movies from them but I didn't inspect them since I heard it was a big brand name over on the east coast....

Sounds like you are paranoid everyone is gonna rip you off, I have sealed Fox movies that dont have any security seals but they have the fancier shrinkwrap (folded at ends)

I would recommend buying from Amazon or a B&M so you know

I wouldn't call it so much paranoid as it is being more aware and alert- and directly from of past experiences. There were movies I received in the past that were undeniably used... and every time, it was with the cheaper plastic. But I will point out that when I say Amazon, I mean only private sellers. Purchases I made straight from Amazon have always been reliable as anybody else on this site can agree on. But it could partially be my fault for clicking on the best deal over the best seller...

Another thing I've considered is what happened with Iron Man: they reopened and resealed every package, so most of them, although authentic, showed very subtle signs of being opened. But that was nit-picky compared to a few of the other movies I've received.

Yea, my Beowulf cover along with all the other 10 copies next to the one I picked up at Best Buy is wrinkled/wavy all around. Nothing you can really do about it

I agree. I would much rather have a factory sealed copy than the shrink wrap copy. I used to work at a popular video game store, and we would have to shrink wrap copies of games that have been returned or opened and sell them as new. I never buy anything that isn't factory sealed.
