Hi I'm new to all this so forgive me if I am asking the obvious.
I have a Philips LCD TV with a DVI-I connector. I realise this cannot take audio (although not when I got it!), so when I had Sky HD I ran the audio through a cheap Home Theatre kit. Now I have Blu-ray (Sony BDP-S300) I wanted it all to work! So I also bought a Sony AV receiver (STR-KS1200) as I thought if the audio was all going thru the receiver the DVI wouldn't matter. Unfortunately I can get great pictures, but no sound, or I can unplug the TV HDMI connection and the sound comes on (but no picture). I don't understand why hte TV connection should affect the AV receiver as I am not receiving any signal from the TV at all - it's just a monitor really. Is there something I should be doing, or can do to get sound and pictures without having to connect the analogue connections (which are on the front of the TV!)? Thanks for any help |

Thanks for that. THis gives me sound for the Sky (optical plugged into the "SAT" on the receiver) but no picture from the Sky HD (which will work if I use the SCART cable). And the receiver optical only connects to "VIDEO 1" and the Blue-Ray only shows video thru "VIDEO 2/BR" !!!!
It appears if I disconnect hte Sky HD lead it has hte most things working (although not all at the same time!!) Obviously I have done something or not done something!!! |

You mention that gives you audio on your HD cable box, but you need to hook your player to your receiver with some kind of audio connection- typically optical in your situation. Sounds like you possibly still haven't done that.
Each and every component in your system needs to be connected to your HDTV for video by some means (hdmi, dvi, component, s-video, composite or VGA) and to your receiver for audio (hdmi, optical, digital coaxial, or stereo/RCA). Then, when watching that component, the right input must be selected on both the receiver and the HDTV in order to get picture and sound. Make sense? |

Thanks very much. That makes sense now. I didn't have an optical connection for both copmponents. I have also found a way to reassign the optical input to a different channel. I think my problem is solved.
Thanks again |
