I just got some Polk Monitor 70s and CS2 for my front speakers. I moved some Yamaha NSF-325s to my surrounds so I have three 8 ohm speakers and three 6 ohm speakers. Reciever is Yamaha RX-V863 which has a 8 ohm and 6 ohm setting. Which setting is best to use and why? Thanx.

You won't notice at moderate listening levels, but at louder levels, the volume will diminish on a pretty steep curve. I don't know where the limit is on the Onkyo units, but the voltage can be cut by as much as 40% at reference levels. It's better to go with 8 ohm speakers if the amp is rated normally at 8. 6 or 4 creates too many compromises. |

My H.H. Scott Intergrated Amplifier has 4-16 ohms speaker impedance.
the amp is all 55 watts, A is 2 channel and B is 2 channel. A + B is 8 ohms speakers impdance. 0 db per 1 watts for speakers. 10db = 100 watts, 20db = 200 watts max! it's possible can damage there speakers. if you high volume ![]() Last edited by Opips2; 02-05-2009 at 07:15 AM. |

Too many people are unnecessarily concerned about damaging their speakers. If you use an amplifier that is rated 500 watts per channel and your speakers are rated only 100 watts, it does not mean that you will damage your speakers. Of course, a big amplifier like that is capable of damaging any speaker, even much larger and more powerful. The advantage of a powerful amplifier is that it will have a lot of reserve power and not clip that easily. It will also make your speakers sound nicer and up to their maximum potential. The key is not to get crazy and turn the volume to normal levels. |
