Default Lite-On DX-4O1S-06 External Blu-Ray Drive, how good is it?

I got one coming in the mail as a Christmas present. Does anyone have it and know how good it is?

I have one. Mine works fine, with the exception of certain movie titles that have very choppy playback, but I think that's somehow related to my system.

Hello, thanks for the reply. I got it the other day and I think I need the firmware upgrade but I cannot find it. I bought the following on Blu-Ray:

Black Mask
Constintine
Dogma
I Am Legend
Saw IV

Out of those 5 only Black Mask and I Am Legend work. Saw IV is choppy through out and Constintine and Dogma will not even play. Can someone help me?

Most likely, you need to update the playback software, not the firmware.

I have Cyberlink PowerDVD BD Edition. Constintine loaded up to the FBI Warning but unexpectantly closed on me.

I am starting to give up on this and feel like selling it off. Can someone help me figure out what my problem is with this? I have Cyberlink PowerDVD as my player. Dogma has been giving me hell and I haven't been able to watch it. It constantly skips while playing it's still frame after still frame while watching it. Saw IV constantly speeds up and slows downs. Saw V has this shutter to it and the colors are crazys and they seem to be glitching. Any clues?

Maybe you don't have the proper system requirements for the drive to work properly. Other than that, a proper firmware update would be suggested.

One more thing to add. Check to see if your cpu is running to many processes by looking at how many processes it is running and how much of the memory the cpu is using. If it is close to 100 percent or around there, then it generally won't play the Blu.

You can generally look up your computer model number online and then copy and paste the specs that a site may have on your specific model number. There is a chance that some specs might be off depending on your specific computer but they shouldnt differ too much. This would help us to let you know if your computer has the power to run a Blu-ray.

Thanks for that, having checked on the cyberlink website your laptop is not upto the minimum specs for blu-ray playback, your cpu is too slow and probably the graphics as well. www.cyberlink.com has a blu ray upgrade advisor that will tell you all the details. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

I was originally going to get a DELL. Those SOBs over at Toshiba told me that it can play Blu fine.

Toshiba's suck. I've gone through 2 optical drives in a 6 month period on this laptop and I'm planning on selling this junk laptop when I move back to Ohio this summer.

I've got one of these, and I've had so many problems with it. The thing is it only works with the software it came with. As soon as I update it, the software stops recognizing the drive. This means I can't play recent blu ray movies. I've also tried other blu ray compatible softwares, and none of them seem to detect the drive. really weird.

Mine died, but I still have it in a box. The power adapter is still with it, I could sell it to you, if you want it?
