I bought the magnavox blu ray player for my girlfriend for christmas but we cant get the hdmi cable to work. It works fine with the red white yellow rca cables but of course is not in high def. all we get when we try the hdmi is a blank blu screen that says hdmi. We're hooking it up to a westinghouse tv and have tried hdmi cables from my 360 and ps3 any help would be greatly appreciated. Im considering trying a hdmi to dvi cable or component cables if for some reason we cant get it to work. Hdmi to dvi is better then component correct? I would prefer to get the hdmi working though thanks.

I also have this player, and hooked it up via DVI out-of-the-box without a hitch. Your player could be set to output at 1080p (someone might have pressed the "HDMI" button on the remote too many times), in which case you will get no picture on your particular television. Press the "HDMI" button on the remote until "1080i" is displayed on the front of the player (see page 13 of the manual for further clarification)...your problem should be solved.
Your TV has VGA, not DVI. Components are fine for 1080i TVs, however (just keep the cables under 6'). Let me know if changing the setting doesn't make the HDMI output work, though. Last edited by get1080pnot720p; 12-27-2008 at 11:18 PM. |

Don't go into any menus...follow the player-specific instructions I provided and you're all set (again, I own the same player). The television doesn't even need to be turned on to fix the problem if you do what I stated in the original reply. My player might have been set to 1080p24 out of the box, now that I think about it... Last edited by get1080pnot720p; 12-28-2008 at 02:30 AM. |

I have the same player as well and your suggestion is the easiest but to be sure everything is set correctly he should go into the menu to verify as well as make himself familiar with the player itself. |
