New PS3 Vibrating noise

Hi, new to forum.
Have a brand new Playstation 3 that has started making a vibrating noise during game play,especially (but not only) when accessing menus.
It also froze up during game play once.
Heat and dust should not be an issue as it is only a few day's old and in an open space.
Is this noise a harbinger of doom?
Any ideas?

wow thats wierd... especially this early, when did you purchase it? becuase if its within 30 days i strongly reccomend you exchange it asap, also i hope you purchased a warrenty becuase mines crapped out in less than 2 yrs

how well ventilated is the ps3? plenty of room around it for proper air circulation? how big of an open space are we talking here?

Sitting on top of a end table next to (5 inches) from the cable box.
2 feet to the wall behind it, 2 feet to the wall next to it.
nothing above it.
