did u not see that on avs they staged a huge buy day. This is why Amazon sales spiked because all HDDVD fanboys bought/preordered on the same day. The numbers will soon be back to normal. No HD turnaround. sry

Remember, all but one major studio has decided to release Blu-ray titles and they probably won't hold out long once they see the numbers that support Blu-ray. So if content is going to be the defining factor, HD-DVD looks to be putting up a weak fight.

When Fox starts releasing again, the picture will change....

Sales at dvdempire has aldready changed back in favour of blu-ray, without any new Blockbusters to support sales.

I think he just wants to rally BD owners to get organized...To light a fire us so to speak.

I guess we, as Blu-ray owners, are too complacent. If we fought like the HD DVD people because they are holding on for dear life, we could REALLY make them cry. I don't know about you guys, but I would like to destroy everything they love! j/k But seriously, arrogance and complacency has been the downfall of many great empires. I would not like to be apart of a fallen empire.

Normally, I wouldn't be a part of something like this movie buying rally, but I guess today is a different day. We don't have to buy a ton of titles each (like HD DVD)...just one. I guess I will do this on April 21. It would be greatly appreciated if all Blu-ray owners would join me.

I will also post this in the movie section of this forum.

All merchants (except Amazon.com) who sell HD-DVDs are seeing their sales numbers drop some amount due to this "campaign". If it is dramatic enough other merchants may stop selling HD-DVDs. I hope the HD-DVDers continue to slant the numbers and buy only from Amazon.com. Amazon.com will then become the only site that sells HD-DVDs.

Personally I buy where the prices are cheap. I do not buy because it will give false sales numbers. It is well meaning but think about it.

Anyone looking at that graphic would see that if those "ranking curves" represent anything closely resembling sales, what the graphic is saying is that the Blu-ray has been selling more copies than HD DVD except for that weekend

but I guess one goal makes the crowd in the arena go wild for a while

We have to see if the team will keep scoring goals afterwards to win the whole game.

thead title changed

I don't think we need rallying....BD is #1 for one week..

they can have their 15 minutes of fame..

Ascended,
I'm with you. I'll buy at least 2 titles.

How can we start a "call tree" in this forum? I'd like to lend a hand, if you contemplate some PMs, etc.

Rup.

I don't see a concentrated effort is going make a difference. People on this forum, along with almost all major Hollywood studios support BD. No matter what you refer to, whether it be Amazon sales or Videoscan, does not give a exact picture on the state of the format war. Major retailers are not included in those and so we do not have an accurate state of things. BD will win out. It is a better technology with tons of support. Instead of the fighting over which is better and staging buying sprees, we should be trying to convince studios and electronics manufactuers that blu-ray is the successor to dvd. Educate them that they are splitting consumers on which HD technology to support and it is going cause backlash for them. If we can focus attentions on Universal, the only BD exclusive studio, to see the light and either support both or drop HD-DVD, the war is over.

I'm still going to buy some BD on the 21st all the same

Of course I'm just a newbie in all this and want me some Heroes on Blu-ray

I would find it very ironic if on the 24th the BD version of Planet Earth passes up the HD-DVD version. I don't see either one of them being in the top ten at that point, but a turn around would be funny.

Once this is all said and done, if the Blu-Ray version actually physically outsells the HD-DVD version AVS forums will be a laughing stock.

Of course, this is all speculation.

I pre-ordered Planet Earth and most my blu-rays for this month well over a month ago. The HD DVD people waited till their pre-order bulk would count.

If Fox can stop their logjam and start releasing discs again I'll buy a lot more. But like 99% of BD owners I'm not going to buy movies I don't want to see just to help a format. HD DVD is more fanatical in that they will.

I thought Planet Earth HD DVD was leading the BD version before the buy day?

That was my first and immediate instinct as well when I saw this thread.

His post history, for the most part, doesn't look that way unless that was all BS and a sham to cover up until this oppurtunity now.

*shrugs*

eproductwars show's that BD's top 10 rank at 179.2 while HD-DVD is back down at 192.7, so that one belongs to BD again, and that's the first they show.
