Generally, people who have the money for Krell products hire others to install and maintain them.

Those folks typically don't hang out on internet forums as they are typically flying from point a to point b when not listening/watching their Krell gear.

Krell is a high end maker of amps and preamps, home theater gear, speakers. Best known for their amps and preamps. They are perhaps the largest of the High End Companies. I personally use a somewhat older modified Krell KAV-250a/3 3 channel power amp for my center and rear speakers in my 5.1 system. When I change to a 7.1 system, the amp will be used for the center and the rear channels.

Apparently there's 2 of you.

Now, I wonder why this is in the Receivers and Amplifiers section and not the Pre/Pro Systems and Separates section? Maybe you'll get a better response there. I don't think anyone who owns Krell equipment would even think about clicking on the Receivers and Amplifiers section, thus the only visibility would be New Posts.

I don't own any, but worked for a company that sold it. Stuff is built like a tank - wonderful and its also very beautiful (love that brushed silver metal look). I don't know many people that own Krell around here. There are, however, many people here that own equipment in that class.

I think that's a bit of an exageration! People with Krell-level system don't necessarily pay other to maintain them or not visit forums. My system is certainly "Krell standard" even though it has no Krell components, and I won't let anyone else touch it!

I tend to agree with you Richteer. People with Krell class gear are ususally hands on hobbist that like to tweek their gear and want no outsiders touching it. Usually the person that does an outside install is a person looking for ease of operation and set-it and forget-it configurations. These people usually hide their equipment and their speakers and the speakers are usually small or inwalls. That's just MHO.

So my buddy dumped it and got the Cary ...ALso their big dollar reference DVD player made a few years ago got extremely poor reviews....

Agreed.

Krell is like ALOT of electronics manufacturers that have seen their product quality decrease over the past 10-15 years or more. They still have quality at certain levels, but the quality is not consistent across all of their products anymore.

Their SACD MKII player was a damn joke. I do not know one person with this player who has not sent it in for repairs. It is batting a 100% breakdown rate. Some dealers refuse to take it as a trade in. Krell imo is one of those companies that has rested on their laurels and allows their name to carry them. It's like Harley Davidson and motorcycles. You have the guys who like it for nostalgia, then you have uninformed people who swing in that direction because it's a Harley. But generally speaking, if you want a high performance motorcycle, a Harley is not it. Apply that logic to audio gear and krell.
