Thanks, but I'll take Pioneer's "Extreme Contrast" 9-mm plasma...they showed a prototype last year and hopefully are making progress to get it ready for the consumer market.

If it doesn't have wirelss HDMI..... it's pretty pointless to be this thin. You'll have plugs hanging out the back that are thicker than the tv.

If we are offered displays the thickness of an HDMI connector, it would sure make installation easier. I singlehandedly installed my plasma on my wall--all 80something pounds of it. Hope I never have to do that again. Thinner displays look sleeker too.

I was thinking the same thing. Althought I wasn't thinking about wireless. I was just thinking how the cables are going to look behind it. Don't get me wrong, it might look super hot, but imagine the price tag. I bet you can buy 2 even 3 tvs for that one.. Lol

Agreed! Plasma is my display of choice. I don't care how thin LCD's get they still will never look as good as a pioneer plasma.

These thin displays come at a cost - its gotta have a "media box" attached to it some how. Removing the guts does reduce the thickness, but adds to the shelf space.

It's not for retail sale. Just a prototype shown at last year's CES. Hopefully we'll find out Pioneer's progress on it over the next couple days at CES 2009. Blu-ray.com staff will be there at the show and reporting what's new, so check the news section.

This is going to be the future. People are going to enjoy these super thin sets with a "brain box" on their shelf. Hell, I wouldn't mind. Like I said in another thread, keep the panel, upgrade the brain. Much more cost effective wouldn't you agree? Much "greener" too

Although, these thin panels are scary. There is a point where they can no longer support themselves correctly, which means during shipping, they are more liable to crack. Same with handling. The thinner, the less durable they are.

Why? For bragging rights? I would guess that the really thin TVs will have a fair amount of flex and may be relatively fragile.
