Default Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising

Publisher: Codemasters
Developer: Codemasters
Platform: PLAYSTATION®3 Computer Entertainment System
Genre: First-Person Shooter
Players: Single-Player, Players Online
Rating: PEGI 18+
Released on Blu-ray Disc : North America – October 6, 2009 | Europe – October 9, 2009

Overview :
Building on the original game's heritage, Operation Flashpoint 2 aims to deliver the most realistic modelling of conflict scenarios in a new contemporary theatre of war. By offering a multitude of military disciplines, gameplay delivers warfare more realistic and intense then ever before, while an extensive multiplayer component creates battles on an incredible scale. The game challenges a new generation of players to survive the chaos and rapidly evolving situations of military combat in a new and contemporary warzone.

General Features
  • Operation Flashpoint 2 gives players the freedom to handle military crisis situations on their initiative. Unscripted missions task players with real objectives, such as laying down covering fire, covering a friendly unit’s retreat or conducting short-range recon patrol. Armed with cutting edge military hardware, players will need to balance brute force with intelligent use of tactics. Once players have completed the campaign, a Mission Editor enables gamers to create their own single player and multiplayer missions
  • Players command and control a wide variety of multi-component, multi-weapon vehicles, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, APCs, attack and utility helicopters. Fully loaded weapons and individual ammunition types are simulated with detailed ballistic physics, based upon individually-crafted mechanics. The character damage system authentically depicts the terrible wounds and injury from modern weapons to communicate the reality of combat
  • Players fight as infantry soldiers in battle, drive tanks in armored assaults, pilot helicopters in air strikes, and infiltrate the enemy in covert special operations utilizing a wide variety of realistic military weapons from knives and rifles to machine guns, grenade launchers and laser designators for air strikes. In whichever role the player chooses, they experience the fierce and brutal reality of warfare and the shock and awe of contemporary firepower unleashed on the arresting scale of modern combat
  • Immense play areas of more than 135 square miles give players a multitude of tactical decisions on how to best accomplish missions. Densely packed with environment detail and objects, valleys, mountains, coastlines, towns, villages and industrial complexes all combine to deliver a rich and challenging tactical environment. The world is persistent, so that buildings destroyed in one campaign mission will be destroyed in the next
  • Operation Flashpoint 2 models the environment, objects and people in realistic detail, but its visual styling will embrace documentary techniques. The camera work through cut-scenes is heavily influenced by television war reports that are often shot under extreme circumstances delivering a unique look with incorrect exposure, severe camera shake and loss of focus

Default All games are welcomed with open arms!

This is beautiful & yet so many of you are too eagerly to move on to the next gen consoles 2-3 years from now.

I wished last gen games looked like this. I'm glad to have been around this gen to see the phenomenal gems that have come my way. Call of Duty 4, Fallout 3, Midnight Club LA & now flashpoint 2. Bring it on. YES!

Loved the first game as it's game play and graphics were great when it came out. I am definitely looking forward to this one as well and will be picking it up day one. This might be one of those games where I might pick it up for PC and PS3.

Looks pretty awesome from what i've seen, I'm really looking forward to the gritty realism. I love gritty realism

Theres over 70 weapons, 50 vehicles. All animations are faithfully recreated including firing weapons, reloading and assembly etc

I would add more pictures and stuff but it's pretty late...
I was avoiding posting this until some more ingame video was created.. but oh well

Um actually the last release date I heard was actually spring 09, and yes ive been very much looking foward to this.. as a fan of the original.

All I can say is bye bye magic pockets...

Anyone know what the storyline is like on this? Are there scripted levels like COD? Or is it something that you plan out yourself? Game looks amazing, I cant beleive I'm just hearing about this now.

The full name of the game is Operation Flashpoint 2 Dragon Rising

Its the sequal to Operation Flashpoint which was GOTY 2001 released on PC and later ported to xbox as operation flashpoint Elite. This was during the PS2 and Xbox era...

This game is known as a simulation game, while during the campaign you could walk over the full island where this game takes place you would die viciously..

The game takes place on Skira Island the devs report the size of the island is 220 km˛ of terrain..

This Island has a turbulent history of being liberated, First owned by China, taken by Japan and liberated by Russia in World War Two, and now is prized as the largest oil reserve in the world..

This game is based on a US military scenario of what would happen if China attempted to re-occupy this island.

The game features various vehicles ranging from land, air, and naval.

Be weary though it is a simulation if like the original you needed 3 people to run a tank, Commander, Driver, Gunner... and take note that rifle infantry will not attack a enemy tank unless the enemy is exposed as rifle bullets would do nothing to a tank. Ammo is precious..

There is a layer of command, determined by rank, and as a higher ranked person is killed the next person in line takes command.

The AI is capable of not only taking orders but giving orders to you and generally can perform any role on any vehicle sometimes even more effiecient then other players..

If you have any questions Ill do my best to find the answer as I have been following this for awhile and im a fan from the previous OPFP.

Cheers.

I just wish Codemasters marketing department would begin the hype train soon so I have more to post about

Oh and just a foward warning I would advise against trying to drive over infantry with jeeps or humvees.. or any other unprotected vehicle the odds are against you...

I loved the original on the PC.. Even though it was glitchy me and a few friends would make our own maps (which were huge).. Game was way ahead of its time back then.. Hope they stick with some of the same things that made the first so good..
