Default so this TREK films "exclusively" on HDdvd this year is just a rumor, yes...?

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...04#post9480604

this guy's thread got me concerned at AVS. Haven't seen the transcript yet but I don't think Paramount would just release this on hddvd, right?

Paramount has supported Blu-ray and HD DVD equally. However, their titles usually come out on HD DVD first and the Blu-ray version hits about 2 months after. Unless they break tradition, this should not be true.

Well, we are in a war and the desperate HD-DVD camp has to do something! It will be a shame though if it happens.

Paramount released WTC on both formats on the same day, so its logical to assume that they will continue this with all future releases.

You can bet money if it's from Paramount it'll come to BD too. Unless java holds them back, it should street at the same time. Regardless, HD DVDs exclusivity is assuredly being exaggerated either by someone that heard what they wanted to or a deceptive HD DVD promotion group, which is where the rumor game from not Paramount. Remember they're also the ones that gave HD DVD fans the false hope of Disney and Lions Gate announcing dual support at CES, among other things related to how VC1 is gods gift to HD. Of course not only did they not announce for HD DVD, both studios virtually denounced any possibility of such.

It is true, from HTF-

<kevincol> For instance, the Matrix trilogy will be coming out this
year from WHV, Star Trek will be exclusive to HD DVD this year,
Babel and The Good Shepherd. All in all there will be over 600
HD DVD titles by EOY.

Maybe Microsoft/HD DVD Group made a deal with Paramount, been known to happen.

Here is more-

BrettGallman> When you mentioned Star Trek earlier, were you
referring to the feature films or the TV series only?

<kevincol> It is my understanding from the HD DVD group that
it will be the feature films

I think this guy is getting his studios confused. He may have been thinking The Good Shepherd as the exclusive. I mean the guy thinks Babel is a Universal title as well (note the reference at the end of the ttranscript). So i think this should be taken with a grain of salt.

Don't worry about it... someone talking about it on another forum does not a press release make.

I just read the start of that AVSforum thread... since when did ANYTHING said by ANYONE at M$ have the slightest bit of credability?

Calm down... Take deep cleansing breaths... and think happy thoughts

This is all HD-DVD zealots need to run with this as established fact.

Calm down folks. Why would Paramount, a company that has been completely neutral, and what's more, has been tweaking their BD releases specifically for the format (unlike Warner) all of a sudden make one of their marquee brands, 'Star Trek' exclusive to HD DVD? It makes no sense whatsoever.

First answer, $$$$ talks, second answer, it is well known that Sony was producing the Paramount BR discs, hence the tweaking, maybe something has changed that we don't know yet.

if it's $$$$ why would Paramount want to delay BD, especially when sales are on a huge upsurge?

Why would Paramount make something big like that exclusive to a format that's practically dead already?

But again: We're all commenting on little more than forum rumor and gossip.

And where did you get this enlightening information of Sony producing Paramount BR discs? Link please.

Or maybe, nothing has changed, and HD DVD zealots are still at their old tricks in spewing FUD and crap in trying to keep their hemoraging format alive. I would think Paramount remaining neutral is the most logical avenue for them to follow, especially with BD sales on the upward curve thanks to Blu-ray player penetration into homes.

Nothing to it.

This is nothing more than Internet forum rumors and gossip.

I'm sure if they do delay the fanboys will be screaming Paramount is about to go HD DVD exclusive.

Perhaps we need a FUD alert threat. One that keeps everyone up on the lies these bozos are going to spread.

Apparently a blog implied that the volume keys for BD titles may have been compromised on a PS/3 using a modified Linux boot. Totally IMPOSSIBLE if the PS/3's player is doing the right thing an clearing memory for protected apps.

A dead easy thing to fix, even if it true. But, I have already seen one fanboy question whether the PS/3 is going to be blacklisted.

The HD DVD software player is totally hacked: No problem.
A rumour about the PS/3: BLACKLISTED!

The desperation is going to get more and more intense, and the propaganda from the HD DVD side is going to get pure ugly. They will try to take out the European launch will all sorts of lies.

Paidgeek, the Sony insider, confirmed this. They are able to create the MPEG-2 encoding for Paramount (and their own) titles in two days.

Paramount will ultimately be shifting encoding under their direct control. The BD success may be making them move this transition up, which could explain any delays, especially to their franchise titles (e.g. Star Trek) which they may want to apply TLC to.

So, consider this a possibility that Paramount wants to put out a mind blowing set of Star Trek on BD50. And that may mean a delay until next year. Spun, of course, anti-BD by the evangelists.

Gary
