Exclamation Does Ps3 play High definition discs HDD?

Sorry for opening new thread as for some reason i could not post in "Ps3 review" thread!!Every time i clicked "Post REply" in that topic it prompted me to login over an over again!

neways, this is my first post here so plz go easy on me.......

B4 asking a PS3 related question let me tell the people here i have read through all of 9 pages of "Ps3 review"topic but could not find what i was looking for.....so hear's my 2 quick questions:

1)Can PS3 play HD Discs i.e. HD movies?Any idea when the mod chips would come out that would play HD discs?

2)As u ppl can see below my Sony is not 1080p,only 1080i and 720p, so i need a practical NO BS assesment of how much visible difference to the naked eye would i be missing out on by not having 1080p??

Thankx....

Also, lastly but not in the least.....i am agreat fan of this site. The people mainting this gr8 site are doing a good job!

Thankx again.....

1) Yes, PS3 is an excellent Blu-ray disc player whihc is the leading HD movie format.

2) 720p/1080i look very good but 1080p does look much better IMO. It is still worth getting the PS3 and watching Blu-ray movies on your TV but eventually you should upgrade to 1080p to see the improvement.

most of the sony sets properly deinterlace the material. while you would be better off with a true 1080p set, you won't notice a huge difference going from 1080i to 1080p.

as for upconverting to 1080p, no you can't. either your t.v. can do it or it can't.

the ps3 is still considered one of the best BR players on the market. it can play BR discs (no modding necessary). in fact, i wouldrecomend against modding because if you mess something up, discs hae the ability to reject being played in that player.

The Blu-Ray High Def playing capability was actually a bigger selling point for the PS3 than its gaming capability for me. Both the movies and game have been very impressive!

Mine is hooked to a 1080i TV too.

1080i is great for viewing movies or games. the quality is there, and there are no complaints. as for the High def disc player, Blu-ray yes, HDD no. if you want a HDD player, that's the X360, not the PS3. but that is ok since it seems like Blu-ray is going to be the leader in high definition technology. also, if you are that worried about 1080p, be sure you get a TV the handles 1080p@60hz. mine handles 1080p@24hz, which would be great if i had a Blu-ray disc player that output that (24hz= 24 frames per sec, like movies are filmed), but the PS3 will only output at 60hz. that's the only problem i've had with my PS3 and that's not enough to complain about. good luck

Thank you, u understood what i meant by HDD.......yes,actually i do notice there are rarely any titles that are in HDD and not in BD!

Also, quite a relief to hear about ppl using 1080i cuz i was very impatient and could wait for 1080p to come out dubai(where i am)!

Thank you very much EVERYONE!
