Default Thank the speaker gods..

I bought a pair of A7's from the Polk ebay store. The other day I noticed a really bad crackling/static sound in my fronts. I narrowed it down to a midrange on one of the towers. So I switched the towers around, the left to the right. The distortion stayed with the tower in question. Uh oh, I can't just take it back to where I bought it... Talked to Polk and thank god they told me to just take out that midrange and send it to them and they will send a replacement. I was having nightmares about having to get into it with them and if I wanted it fixed I'd have to pay a hundred or so to ship the whole tower to them. I'm out my surround for 2 weeks but really that would be the case no matter what for something bought online.

This fear has led me to spend a little more $$$ and buy locally many times. Say what you want about BB, but it's comforting to know if I buy a new plasma TV and there's something wrong with it (like it turns out to be an LCD disguised as a plasma ) I can just take it right back to the local store.

Ninja LCDs? Who'd of thunk it.

I completely agree with you on this though. Pretty much any "big ticket" item (over a couple hundred bucks) I buy in store unless the online deal is just way too good. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Best Buy owns my soul.
It's probably bad that I'm on first name basis with a lot of the employees at my local store.

Yeah that was my little pick against LCD (I'm a plasma person, obviously) but I prefer to buy locally whenever possible. Even though it may cost a little more, I can see the item before I leave the store and I don't have to worry about some shipping company destroying it. Even if I have it delivered by the store, it's still right up the road if there's a problem. Best Buy is a great place to buy IF you know what you want when you go in, and if you wait for the right sales. I would NEVER go in there asking the salesmen for advice or information. They're usually idiots.

Polks customers service is amazing. I've called them twice to ask them questions about timber matching speakers etc, and i don't even get a machine it just rings 2-3 times and a person picks up. It's awesome!

That was the case. They were $680 total for the pair. Lowest I can even find them online elsewhere is $550 for ONE.

Not to turn this into a pooping contest but from what I see when I make my semi-weekly rounds around best buy, Plasma is the way I'm going next. Course the fact I just had to buy a new car may delay the new TV long enough for OLED or laser being the choice TV.

I think you're confused. An upgrade is when something is better. Remember it's puff, puff, PASS!!

Harshness based on experience. I didn't just wake up one morning and decide that BB salesmen are usually idiots. I actually dealt with them quite a few times before I made that determination. Of course there are exceptions, but you're lucky if you come across one.

Yo Fireman, If you truly were a Hard Core Plasma Man, youd have a Pio or a Panny. Hate to break it to ya, but Samsung is better at making LCD's bro.

I think you're taking my previous posts just a little too seriously. Besides, I couldn't pass up the deal I got on the Samsung at the time. And it may not be quite as good as a Kuro, but it is a really good plasma. And don't worry, you weren't the one to break it to me.

I still have an old pair of Monitor 10B's that used to team up with a pair of Monitor 4A's with my first Dolby Surround system. A few years ago I caught a raspy sound in one of the mids (like the pole was scraping on the sides of the voice coil). They told me they had the parts to fix it, and they weren't all that expensive.

The story isn't finished yet. I'm finally getting them back (the ex and I are reconciling, lol). One of the first things I'm doing is rebuilding my old Polks, and setting up that old two channel system.

Aside from the excellence they build into their products, Matthew Polk's company has always been top notch to me. Considering that those old loudspeakers are over twenty-four years old and they still carry support for them should speak volumes.

Cool part is - at the time I bought the Panny, BB online had it for less than ANY other outlet I could find, online or otherwise - $1499. Add free shipping, the ability to take it down the street if there'd been a problem (there wasn't), 3 years no interest & $30 back in Reward Zone certificates - win-win-win-win-win.

I should change the title to curse the speaker gods. I sent the speaker in on 2-20(they got it 2-25), now today after I had to send an email to find out where it is.. I get a response that it has been processed and ALLOCATED to ship. Are you f'n for real, it's gonna take almost a month?? I'm sure they won't overnight it and have it here this morning, more like the 5-7 day standard shipping. They haven't even shipped it yet?? And I had to pay to get it fixed while under warranty!!

NEVER AND I MEAN NEVER BUY FROM POLK AUDIO DIRECT

Just hit day 15 since they got it. 20 total now. Total BS... Anyone who thinks I'm overreacting, unplug your surround for 20 days and send me 15 bucks. I'll be sure to keep you in the dark about when you might see the replacement I'm supposedly sending.
