i just ordered my sony 5300es reciever (got it so it could last for a while) i am going to get def tech pro monitor800s for my sides and rear and pro monitor1000s for my center now i have it narrowed down to these two subs http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1157067060889 and http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1099395911231
i dont know what to get my room is about 12 x 12 and my friend works for best buy so i get them for a great price.... here is my question is it worth the $80 (employee difference) to step up to the reference sub? |

After looking at both of them if the difference is only $80 I'd go with the more expensive one but the cheaper one might be enough for a 12' by 12' room. Of course many here would probably recommend something different if we knew your price range. Something like this maybe...

I own the Sub-10, and I can tell you that it is one hell of a sub! Question...why not go with a Def Tech sub? They make outstanding subs! The Klipsch will probably be able to put out more in terms of volume, but Def Techs are known for playing tight, deep, accurate bass. The Def Tech ProSub 1000 is comparable in price and is rated to play all the way down to 18 Hz while the Klipsch is rated down to 28 Hz. Also, the Klipsch sub amp is rated at 200 watts RMS(420 peak), while the Def Tech is rated at 300 RMS(no peak power rating listed). Why don't I own a Def Tech sub then, you might ask? I received the Sub-10 as a Xmas gift this year. If I had been given a choice, I would have gone with a Def Tech. But hey, I'm not gonna complain. It was a kick ass gift!

The sub 10 is more than enough with a 12 x 12 room depending on the acoustics of the room.
With the difference only being 80 dollars, I would only go with the higher priced sub if you think that you need to spend the extra money. or if that feeds your ego of having gold cones. I have no knowledge of subs (brands) other than the Klipsh unless we're talking concert size. Test them in the showroom. A/B, if possible.. Try the sub 10, If it doesn't give you what you desire return it. |

thanx for all the responds... the best buy i went to none of the subs were working except for the referance 10 and matched up good with the def techs... but i am all about accurate and clean sounding bass (thats y i went with a sealed box for my car) and im not too familiar with the def tech just heard alot of good things about them... and my budget is about 600 (with the klipsch my total is about 660 after tax, stupid california... got to love the discount)

Whenever possible, go with sealed subs. They require lots more power to drive, which is the reason you see so many ported subs on the low end, pricewise. If you can go with the deftech, do it, and don't look back... |

I was helping my friend to put together a speaker system for his home theater and have a chance to hear both, I will go with the deftech sub for sure, its more accurate, bass pitch are more articulate, it just sound better to my ear. If you want to get one of the best sub try the JL Audio F112 or F113, you will never have to upgrade from that point on.

i would love to go with JL audio cuz they make one hell of a sub (everything in my car is JL interior speakers and sub) but just a bit out my price range... one of thoes would pay for my whole system including my display...lol... but i was thinking of this or http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1190678281737 i want to with the supercube but a bit out my price range anybody here try these???

The DefTech is nice, but an 8" sub is rather small. They make a SuperCube sub, same size, way higher output - and another $300. I'd go with the Klipsch 12" at that prices range, for a ported sub. Go listen to both of them, you'll see why. |
