I just purchased the new Futurama Movie and overall the picture quality was good... most of the time. For some reason, the picture would darken a bit and the color would distort and then it would go back to normal then darken again. I kept doing this throughout the movie. I don't know if it was an issues with the disc or my player or my TV. I have a 80GB PS3 (newer) connected to a 42" LCD Magavox TV via HDMI and optical Audio.

go through your TV setup and check for any 'Auto Backlight' option of some sort. Turn it off, and see if that helps. I know when I first watched Alien Vs Predator 2 on blu-ray, the image darkened then lightened.

Loved it! No problems with my PS3 60 gig machine!
Any word if the first 2 released films .. Bender's Big Score & The Beast of a Billion Backs will come out on Blu-ray? |

This is the AUTO Blacklight or Auto 'IRIS'. It dampen the light when it's darker to give better black.
Since Futurama use Simple colors it can trick the system if the colors are too dark. Normally you don't see it (well you can see it if you look very close).. |

I'll have to try turning that off when I watch it again and see if that works. Thanks for the info.

I tried looking at my TV setting and there isn't an option to turn off the auto backlight. I tried messing with every combination of settings on both the TV and the PS3 but I still get the same thing. Its not just that the picture darkens but the color greatly distorts. The skin colors look very pale and Bender's Grey turns almost to a sky blue. I don't know if its the Blu Ray cause its only my second Blu ray movie (the first was Italien Job but it was transfered bad so can't make comparison). I tried a DVD of the second Futurama movie and I didn't notice any color distortion so I don't know if its my PS3, the TV or if I just got a bad copy of the movie...
The movie overall though was great. |
