I rented The Descent from blockbuster. When I put it in the PS3 the system would not recognize the disc. I shut the PS3 off and turned it back on and still no movie to start. I check the disc and it was flawless.
The way I had to get it to play was to turn the auto-start disc function back on and the reset the PS3, at that point it showed the disc and then automatically started up. The movie played fine the whole way through. I just thought it was weird I have never had to start any blu-ray like that. |

I know the feeling when a disc won't play. I had the same problem when I tried to play 'Stomp The Yard'. My disc would show up on the screen, it would try to load, then it would just go right back to the main PS3 screen when you turn it on.
The reason that it wouldn't play is because I had changed the BD/DVD Region setting to 'Canada' (as that is where I live). I tried playing it on my laptop, and it worked fine. It took me a while to figure out what was going wrong, so I changed the region setting back to 'USA' and it started with no problems. Funny how this works with the PS3, considering Region A discs include Canada, USA, and Japan (among others). Also, to remain on topic, The Descent won't play in my laptop player. I think it has something to do with the BD-Java capabilities on the disc itself. Oh well, i'm sure they'll have a firmware update sometime. Marc |

On the freezing, you should try turning off your internet connection. That will often cause that... or at leaset did under the older fireware updates. |
