Default Vizio VBR100

I hope this hasn't been discussed already, if so I apologize. I didn't see a thread on this. I am curious to see if anybody has any info on the Vizio VBR100. The Blu-ray player is supposed to be out next month for under $200. I have my set-up, but I am looking for a friend. This might fit his budget without being a pain-in-the-butt player - like a Magnavox. Does anybody have any new info on the player - like a specific release date? Who might carry it?

Thanks,

Brian

I am actually waiting for one of these. I believe it was announced for April, but I am not 100% sure. Costco or BJ's could be the place to find it.

Yea, I saw the release date was to be April, but I haven't heard an exact date. I haven't heard too much about the player, but the people I know with Vizio TVs are happy with them.

+1

I am one of them. I was so hesitant when I bought my 42" Vizio about a year and a half ago. The floor model at Sam's wasn't helping at all. It had a horrible tint in the picture, contrast/brightness way out of wack, and too much sharpness. I can see why people are reluctant to buy them. I did anyway thinking I would bring it back for a refund if I didn't like it. I bought a video essentials calibration disc with it. Out of the box it was like Sam's club's floor model. But, after doing the calibration, it was as good as my son's 42 in Samsung. My son couldn't believe I bought mine for almost half the cost of his Samsung and has just as good PQ. The Sammy specs rate very high in contrast to brightness ratio while the Vizio is 10 times less. However, that spec doesn't seem to translate well to what you really get. The Vizio passes BTB and WTW so well in the calibration tests that it keeps up with my son's Sammy. So if the Sammy's is better, how do you know or tell. We couldn't!

Despite the bad press and lawsuits against the company, their products are fine and well built IMO. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of their BD players if I were in the market for one.

What would you like to know? I'll ask my sister.

Mainly I am looking for two things: 1) a specific release date and 2) if anybody has used the player yet.

Thanks,

Brian

Vizio Blu-ray Player Coming Exclusively to Walmart

Posted June 23, 2009 05:18 PM by Josh Dreuth

During a press conference today, John Schindler, New Product Development Vice President for Vizio, commented on the company's upcoming Blu-ray Disc player, the VBR100. The player will be available in late July, exclusively at Walmart, for the suggested retail price of $188. It will be BD-Live capable with the addition of a USB thumb drive.

In the November timeframe, Vizio will introduce the VBR110, which will be technically identical to the VBR100, but available at other retailers.

There is some worry that Vizio may have removed the analog outputs, for people who want to utililze a pre-HDMI receiver with a 5.1 analog input.

I guess we'll see in a few more weeks

I'm hoping that this is the player that can be trusted to have updates, etc. and is less than $200, that I can finally recommend without reservation to friends/family looking to get into Blu-ray.

And yep, no multi-channel analog outs, not surprising, and really not the end of the world, but would have been cool.

The 7.1 analog out with dts Master decoding is what was selling me on this player, bummer! Now my Olivea is going to have to get me by but with no dts master decoding!
Perhaps a VBR200 next year with the Multi channel out?

Why? The guy is happy to buy American--happy enough to find his CapsLock key. Vizio IS an American company. Their products ARE assembled in America. At least, that's what the little card that came in the box with my Vizio 32" LCD says.

(Although I'm sure they use the term "assembled" lightly, and I know the parts are definitely imported.)
