Default Conficker.C - April Fool's Joke?

I work in the IT field and so far we have not seen zilch come across and effect our computers. Could it be that this was just a joke to scare everyone like the Y2k deal we had years back?

Anyone know?

Thanks

Ever since someone informed me that something was suppose to happen on April 1st, I knew it was just a joke.

It could be that it's set to download instructions today and everybody will think it's an April Fools joke and then in a couple weeks the instructions it downloaded will take place. That would be the best way for this kind of worm to work, don't do anything on the day it's "supposed" to do something so everybody lets their guard down. Time will tell if it actually does something. Hopefully it's all ado about nothing and the security companies figure out a way to neutralize it before it does do anything (if it will).

when I had Norton I got virus's all the time and it always slowed my computer down soooo much. When I started working at a computer shop a couple years ago I learned about AVG and started using them for free! I've seen AVG stop quite a few virus's that I know Norton would have missed. Plus I saw the damage that computers had that were using Norton. My manager had a requirement at our shop...if we saw Norton we took it off and put AVG on and informed the customer as to why we made the switch.

AVG user here. All my Windows PCs have it. I rank it right up there with SpyBot and LavaSoft Ad-Aware.
