A great movie, though I have it on HDDVD and not on blu. Is the quality increase really there to make it worthwhile upgrading?

What area (bar it bieng on blu for conveniance) is it better then hddvd, I was under the impression that it used the same video transfer, is the audio different?
(I thought I would add I supported blu not hddvd, but grabbed a couple hddvd's when they where going for a few dollars as I had been giving the hddvd xbox 360 add on as a gift, and it was cheaper then renting ).

the hd dvd is the exact same as the blu ray except the blu ray has pcm audio while the hd dvd has true hd. No need to upgrade unless it is more convienitnt for you.
Oh and great movie, im just waitng for someone to chime in that the movie is terrible and not nearly as good as the original japanese version. Man i wish i was as trendy as them.

But I must say on Blu at my buddies with 5.1 surround and 1080p it just looked and sounded amazing. Better than seeing it in the theatre.

If you haven't seen it yet, you MUST. Damon, Nicholson, & Dicaprio are just tremendous!
Yes, it is a great movie. Just watched again a couple of days ago.

And you forgot about Martin Sheen and Mark Wahlberg. They gave great performances too.

The original wasn't Japanese. That aside, I did enjoy The Departed. I also have it on HD DVD.

The OP left Marky Mark out of the OP, and I feel that he tore it up in The Departed.

Movie wasn't that great. I was solid, but a redo from a chinese masterpiece. If you want to watch how the movie really went down, watch the original (chinese dialouge, but english subtitles).

It took place in Hong Kong with the Triads. It was an alright movie, but after watching the Departed it just feels chopped together. It is a much shorter movie and Departed explores character depth and story much much more, so by no means is Infernal Affairs superior to the Departed.

The departed is effectively a remake of the three infernal affairs films though. And a very losse remake. Hell, if they hadn't said it was based on Infernal Affairs I don't think anyone would have felt it was copying from Infernal Affairs.

Also good to now there's no that I shouldn't run out and buy a blu of it (though I will sonner or later, but i'll just wait for a sale).

I need to see it again but on first viewing I found the film disappointing. I much preferred Infernal Affairs and much as I've always liked Jack Nicholson he's just too unrestrained in this. Scorsese could have done a fantastic job filming George V Higgins' brilliant Boston crime novel At End Of Day rather than remaking a more than satisfactory original film. Still, Scorsese's adaptation of Dennis Lehane's tricky novel Shutter Island could be a return to form

I'm the only one I know who hated this movie. Probably has a lot to do with the fact that I hate New Yorker's and their snoddy accents.
