Default Patapon 2 to be a UMD-less product

The PSP cases will be empty, with a voucher for the download inside. If you purchase the product at retail, it will be $19.99. You'll also be able to purchase the download code via the web sites of certain retailers. Again, you'll buy a code the unlocks the download. There will be no UMD, physical copy of the game available.

Packaging is nice, but I'm kind of in a green phase right now so I don't mind.

So costs the same as the original Patapon game($19.99) but with no UMD just a voucher. Should of just went with $14.99 also for retail.

I don't really get the price differential. Unless they add a manual and stuff in there, why would anyone bother to pay the extra 5 dollars?

Then SCEA would make a lot less off the retail sales. Retail still takes a cut.

I know, but what incentive is there for a consumer to buy the product at retail if they're only getting a voucher and have to pay a 5 dollar premium?

The same reasons people still buy other stuff in the street when you can usually get it cheaper online.

It's a little different here though. You ultimately have to connect to the psn to download the game either way.

Awesome, by the way if this is info from the Ars mole, then you can take it to the bank, dude has been spot on on plenty of info before.

They could possibly justify the extra retail cost to the consumer by including a manual and some art. Me, I would just download it off the PSN.

i read in another article that they have another sony rumor coming this weekend

Before he leaves, he gives me an envelope. "That one's about Sony," he tells me. "Open it over the weekend, I think you'll be very interested in the information." Two big scoops in one week? The Mole delivers.

I read that as over the weekend that just happens, so the Patapon rumor is most likely what the "2nd envelope" was about.

That is true, but at least the PSP is portable and Wifi Ready. No need to download it from your PS3 anymore now that you can access the PSN store from it.
