Most of these titles I never had on DVD. I started buying DVD's in 2000, but until now I had up to 60 DVD's.

The only titles I upgraded from that list from DVD to Blu are..

ID4
MI2
V for Vendetta
The Patriot
The Day After Tomorrow
Predator

I have all the terminators on DVD, and I will go all Blu next month when T1 & T2 will be re-released.

Much like Blade Runner The Thing in HD looks awesome for an older movie. You really can spot new things while watching it creating a whole new experience.

Not a bad list but no Fifth Element?! for shame...

Default Yikes!

Out of that list alone, I have 27 of those on both Blu-ray and DVD..... and I still have others I plan on getting (like The Godfather for sure!!!!)

Heck, I have 6 copies of Reservoir Dogs on DVD ....

I thought so too. That's why I came here to post it, but you beat me to the punch. There are some really baaad movies on that list (i.e. Spider-man trilogy), but non-blockbuster movies have pretty fair representation. I think this is noteworthy because so many "must have" Blu-ray lists are 100% spectacle, as if the format would only appeal to people who like guns, car chases and shiny things.

Why should I re-buy 'Gangs of New York' on Blu-ray? It was my understanding that it had the worst pq of any Blu-ray released to date.

I think this article is slanted more towards great movies on Blu-ray rather than pq/aq improvement over their dvd counterparts.

i havnt seen gangs of ny, but i think the distinction for worst bd transfer had to go to 'the punisher' the bluray copy was so bad, i put in my dvd copy after watching it and actually think i saw an improvement. as far as those titles... alot of them are top notch transfers.. i can say for myself Black Hawk Down, Transformers and King Kong are all crown jewels in my bluray collection as far as pq goes and well worth the upgrade. other movies i own on that list

Spiderman Trilogy
V for Vendetta
StarshipTroopers
Batman Begins
Bourne Collection
The Rock
Kingdom of Heaven
Man on Fire
Event Horizon
I Robot etc

there are a few titles on that list i have my eye on...

Day After Tomorrow
Reign of Fire
Enemy of the State

very cool article, thanku!

I must say I alrady have done a good bit of transfering over to Blu form my DVD. And I can diffenetnly say that the trasnfer of DVD over to Blu for the day after tomorrow was very impressive to me. In the first 5 minutes I ws like WOW I never saw that before, even my mom was surpirsed. (thast saying a lot for her) But yes I already did most of those over to blu. The sound on trasformers is really awesom on Blu then DVD. (can't wait for the new movie to come out)

You're right. I had the blu of Gangs and the PQ was the worst I have seen on blu - considering the source material.

Two things:

1. Why in the H. E. double hockey sticks isn't The Dark Knight on that list?

2. How are movies like The Wizard of Oz and The Seventh seal on there? The movies aren't even out yet. The Wiz hasn't even been given a release date yet and The Seventh Seal doesn't come out til June.

My guess for why Dark Knight isnt on there is that it came out on Blu-Ray at the same time it came out on DVD. Meaning it was never only on DVD.

The one film that really didn't belong on that list was Domino. Maybe Remember the Titans too...

Don't see The Matrix on that list. It's DEFINITELY worth the upgrade over the DVD.

Perhaps you didn't read the article. First line of the article is "If your Blu-ray collection consists only of The Dark Knight, it's time to step up what you own."

For me only the big titles are worth re-buying e.g. Starwars, Lord of the Rings, Matrix and the likes ...
Oh and the Pixars too of course

I have upgraded almost everything, I will upgrade everything, eventually, just not there quite yet.
Sold the DVD's and used that money to buy the Blu-Rays.

With so many great films coming out on Blu, I have only upgraded on one title, that's because it is my fave film and the restoration was second to none. (Zulu)
I have to many DVD's and not enough money to upgrade all of them. Out of the 77 I have 8, only on Blu and another 40 odd on DVD. Upgrading will take time.
