Default Forbes article about Blu-ray and picture quality

I missed this article when it first came out but I was flipping through an older issue of mine from February 2, 2009 and chanced upon it. It talks about the need for high-bitrate video encodes for the best picture quality from HD formats, particularly Blu-ray. The poor quality of downloads in comparison are discussed and the recommendation is that 25 Mbps for the video encode is a good starting point.

Apparently Forbes supports the cause of videophiles.

I was surprised myself. Blu-ray is becoming very mainstream.

Make me wonder what A$$ bitrate they used for Predator.

Still gets me fired up, I paid $18 bucks for it!

I heard Predator is not bad at all but I haven't seen it on blu so I can't comment on that. But there is a huge difference in the Mbps category as seen in this article and it would be pretty sweet if there were something that made developers have to have a certain level of speed associated with blu-rays I am sure this might cost a bit more for them to make but it would really let us show what blu-ray can really do.

Speed and bitrate *sometimes* doesn't add any quality.
You can encode a Youtube video at 40mbps but it will still be a Youtube video.
I have seen some fairly impressive Blu-ray discs with "Lower Than Average" bitrates and they looked great - I have also seen 40+mbps Blu-rays that were not spectacular.
