Default Klipsch SUB-12 vs Velodyne or SVS

I have a SUB-12 right now and want to her some feedback from someone who has owned a SUB-12 and upgraded to a Velodyne or SVS and what the difference was. My room is 22x15, the Klipsch does good work and can rattle everything, but I know there is better out there.....looking to stay around the $700 mark. So thinking the DEQ or DSR? 12" series.

Hi,

My opinion is that you'll have a better sub for the money going the SVS way (SB12-Plus for 649$, check out the review from Audioholics). I'm sure it outperforms the Velodyne models you mentionned (DEQ-12R, DLS-4000R). Also I'm not sure the change from your Klipsch SUB-12 to the Veldodyne models you mentionned would be a dramatic improvement.

I have a Klipsch KSW12 (which is a lower/previous model than the SUB-12) and it's not bad but it's definetely not in the same league as my SVS 20-39 PC Plus.

Anyway, check the reviews, check the other options (like Elemental Designs, HSU Research, etc.) and try to listen to them (if possible, or take the in-home trials) and then I'm sure that for the same price as Velodyne, you'll find that SVS, Elemental Designs, HSU Research (and surely others) have better offers!

I appreciate the feedback and link, the SVS you own looks killer! I know room accoustics and dimensions play a huge roll in sound....does your SVS really pound (hard hitting) compared to the KSW12? Is there night and day difference I guess is what I am asking....because I want a pretty significant change if I am replacing a perfectly good sub (relatively new also). Thanks man!

I have the same sub as Johk and I upgraded from a Klipsch also. The only thing is that I had a KSW-10, not a 12. The difference for me was night and day but it was also three times more expensive and it is a larger driver as well.

I have heard the Sub-12 though and while it's not bad for an off-the-shelf sub, the internet direct brands really can't be beat (unless you start going to top of the line stuff). The SVS will definitely be better but I'm not sure if it will totally floor you or not.

Thanks, thats basically the info I am looking for....was contemplating adding a second SUB-12, but thought nah, let me get into the serious subs first, then think about a 2nd.

Thanks again for the info, it is appreciated!

Like MacDaddyOJack, the difference for me was night and day. I can literally feel the bass (something I never felt as much with other subs) and at the same time the bass is not boomy or overpowering (with proper levels). When people come over at my house and I show then an action movie or a demo scene, the low LFE effects is one of the things that impress them the most (great demos like the scene with the Brooklin bridge in Cloverfield).

On another note, you could combine an SVS (or other) subs to your Kplisch sub and see if they go well together.

Cheers!
