Star trek the original series season 1 missing episode

I have just brought season 1 on blu ray and i was wondered why the episode 1 the cage. the pilot episode wasnt pack of the package..

Please answers on a postcard..

The Cage was the pilot that was not chosen to produce a series. As such, it's included in the 3rd season set on DVD, so that's likely where it will be on Blu-ray. Besides, so many pieces of it are in The Managerie in Season 1.

As stated in the post above, the Star Trek TOS thread identified it is slated to be included in season 3. *shrugs* as to why it fits there lol

I'm waiting for my copy of Season 1 of Star Trek to arrive so I haven't seen the BD release first hand yet.

If I have to guess, it is probably for the same reason as the first release of Star Trek Season 1 on DVD. "The Cage" is a "pilot" before the series back when the pilot episodes were used to sell the series to a network. It's never considered as part of the first season of a series.

If I remember correctly, this episode was included as part of the first release of the Season 3 DVD set as a special episode. I think that this is probably the same case with the BD release. At any rate, many of the scenes in "The Cage" was later repackaged into "The Menagerie" two-part episode in Season 1 of the series.

As far as why including it on the Season 3, my theory is because of storage space. Star Trek was having problem staying on the air toward the end of Season 2. Season 3 exists mainly from fan support and therefore was the shortest season of the series. Putting "The Cage" on the 3rd set makes sense since there would be room on the same amount of discs.

Season 1 (29 eps), Season 2 (26 eps), Season 3 (24 eps).
