Default Star Wars Question Regarding Palpatine/Darth Sidious

So I have been watching The Clone Wars Blu-ray and it got me thinking. Now I may have missed something from the second trilogy and I haven't seen Episode 3 in a long time, but here is my question. How long did Palpatine have Order 66 planned? It just interests me that this whole thing happened and all of the Clones knew, yet Yoda and others didn't really have a clue about this.

Count Dooku ordered the clone troopers at about the same time as the trade federation blockaded Naboo, under the orders of Palpatine - so he'd had it planned for a good 20 years or so.

George Lucas would be the man to answer this. Like the above poster it would seem that he had it in mind for a long time but the number also has to be significant. I'm sure he could have uploaded an order at anytime he pleased with the amount of power he had.

He could have had the order ingrained into the clones as they were being created.

He had it planned all along. At least before the events of Episode I took place. Probably even earlier, because when Episode I began, he was already working in politics.

He orchestrated the blockade on Naboo to get the ball rolling that would lead to him taking to political power over the senate. Part of him taking complete power as the Emperor was the destruction of all Jedi, something he also craved in being a Sith Lord.

Yoda and the others DID see it coming, but they couldn't tell what it was they were sensing. All they sensed was a darkness, because their vision was clouded by the growing power of Palpatine and, I would say, the overall dark plot of the entire Clone Wars.

The thing that I think is hilarious is people look at the Clone Wars like it was a "real" thing. Like it was a real war worthy of identifying the Jedi as heroes of. It was puppeted on both sides by Palpatine, on one as the politician Palpatine and on the other as the Sith Lord Darth Sideous. He used the war as a catalyst that would allow him to overthrow the Senate. The Jedi fighting in that war were just puppets, not war heroes. Characters like Grievous are easy to villify, but that doesn't mean the war was justified.

Not happening. Star Wars is intended to be the rise, fall, and redemption of Anakin Skywalker. With his death in Episode VI, there is no more to tell.

They could make additional movies in the universe (like The Clone Wars, or even live action things like the upcoming TV show), but no Episode VII or beyond.

Palpatine/Sidious, apprentice of Plagueis, also created Anakin -- it's on the DVD commentary for Episode III. Lucas decided to cut the explicit dialog from the film, and now Palapatine only vaguely refers to it, which I think is a damned shame, because if you know that Anakin was created by the Sith, it puts a lot of things in Episode I in context.

Lucas once said in a documentary he had a 9 movies story in mind but he would be too old to do the last 3. He started writing Episode I in 1993 and knew it would be a 12 years work.

If Ep. VII, VIII and IX ever do come about, either live action or animated features, I'd like to see the films based on the Timothy Zahn novels.

+1. I've had them in hardback since they were released back in 1991. Still the best Star Wars books I've read.

Totally agree. It's been a while since I read them though, but it felt like a natural continuation of the story.

You think that's why he had such influence over Anakin? During the murdering of Dookoo, and Mace Windu, Anakin seemed to lose all Jedi sense of principle and Palpatine was present both times.

I don't know in what novel it was, but I don't like the idea of Jacen, the twin son of Han Solo, becoming Darth Caedus, a Sith Lord.

It was during the Legacy of the Force series and I hated it as well, but got to admit what they were willing to do in these novels. I also didn't like the things he did as a Sith Lord and ultimately what happens to him in the end.

Well, if they ever did adapt those stories, they wouldn't be episodes 7-9. Those are Zahn's stories, not Lucas's. And besides, they would have to be animated as the cast is too old. The only other option would be to re-cast everybody, and that would be a disaster.

Anyway, there never will be Episodes 7,8,9, even after Lucas' death.
