Playstation High Component Cables - Blu-ray Forum

Hi there, I just became a member so I could ask this question. Ok right now I have my PlaystationThree hooked up to my T.V. using high component cables, I have the Red,Blue, and Green ones in the back of my T.V. And then I stretch the Red, and White ones(Audio) and plug them into an older HomeTheaterSystem(No HDMI Hook-up) so I can enjoy surround sound. Now my question is. Should I buy a newer HomeTheaterSystem with a HDMI hook-up, Plus two HDMI cables??? Or do High Component Cables display the same picture??? Ok hopefully everybody understood that. Basically the question is. Should I buy two HDMI cables and a newer HomeTheatersystem? Or stick with the high component cables? I want the best picture possible. But just a slight difference I'm cool with. Thanks in advanced. Please help me.

in my experience (i use both hdmi and component) i get the same hd picture (maybe slightly better with hdmi). getting a receiver also has the benifit of hd audio not just for the hdmi hookup for video. the ps3 can decode all the hd audio from blu rays and also has pcm audio from games.

so basically its up to you. i wouldnt buy a new receiver just for the video and hdmi hook up but i would for the audio.

Holy that was a fast response, Thank you. So basically I should stick with High Component Cables? Then maybe in the near future start saving up for a new HomeTheaterSystem? Thanks again.

if you have the $ go for it
1) red+white=stereo
2) component is at best 1080i
3) HDMI will take care of everything (audio and video)
4) HDMI can have 5.1 (or even 7.1) lossless (for better audio)
5) eventually (maybe) some BDs (and other stuff) will come out that use ICT (image constraint token) which will force devices to use much smaller resolution over component-rendering it almost SD)

Do you have any optical inputs on your receiver? If so, use that instead of RCA/red & white. You'll get 5.1 sound instead of stereo.

you should buy an optical cable and use that for real surround sound. stick with component until you get a better receiver

If your TV is 1080p, the only way to get 1080p video for BD is using HDMI. Component can only pass 1080i though for games, it's 1080p.

but then he can't output 5.1 PCM, he would either be lossy or stereo.

Thanks everybody, I decided I'll probably buy a new HomeTheaterSystem along with two HDMI cables. And by the way my T.V. is only capable of producing a picture of 1080i. Thanks again.
