Totally depends on you doesnt it? In my opinion tho..if its a 46" XBR then its an upgrade else its a downgrade going by size....but again upto you!

Well, Kinda depends on how you look at it.
Rear projections usually have excellent contrast/black levels. But, with an LCD you can minimize/rid the effects of overscan which plague rear projection/crt's. Digital picture vs. Analog picture, some people might prefer one over the other. Viewing angles might suffer with LCD too. But youd have to look at it in person, theyve been getting better. But I think the biggest factor, and one you have already experienced...is Bulb life. Yeah, it may last you a while, but when it goes out, its an inconvenience to replace not to mention could be expensive or at a time in your life when money might be tight? An LCD is almost certain to last you a very long time, until the upgraditis bug starts to itch again. ![]() Although, you are talking about an almost 10" size difference. ![]() ...just move the couch closer! ![]() Last edited by crackinhedz; 06-29-2009 at 09:52 PM. |

Crack is wise.
If I were in your shoes, tho, I'd replace the bulb. I have a 50" Sony SXRD (KDS-50A2020) and I love it. It's about 2 years old and gets TONS of use. When the bulb finally goes, I plan on replacing it. Speaking of... gonna go price-check those... |

Well its an honor for you to reply Crackin. I went and got the LCD and the picture is so much better imo. Maybe cause the bulb was on it's last days? But the picture is amazing!! The viewing angle is better too. I am a gamer and that looks better by like 5x. I guess I've got 30 days to make up my mind. Upgraditis is an incurable disease. |

No kidding. I actually had a friend offer to buy mine for $500 more than I paid for it when Sony stopped making them. He wanted it for the same reason I did: kids. You can chuck a softball @ the screen and it just bounces off. Can't say the same for plasma or LCD. And with toddlers in the house, you never know what'll go flying.

I kind of wish I had gone that route two years ago. I was trying to decide between the TV I have now and a SXRD. Ultimately, I went with the LCD because I don't want to have to change the bulb every few years (I watch a lot of TV). A sacrifice in screen size, but I ended up with a great TV that will last much longer than I need it to.
