I looked it up and here is what I found.

Beware of any players announced or are available before October 31, 2007 as they are not required to meet specification profile 1.1, which mandates a secondary picture decoder and full Blu-ray Java support.

I can't find anything that says the this thing has profile 1.1
I don't think you can add a secondary picture decoder by adding new firmware, someone correct me if I'm wrong. I will pass on this blu player and now that the samsung BDP-2400 is cancelled. I'm not sure what player to get this x-mas.

from what I can find but not 100% , its 1.0 profile and we have to get Samsung BD-UP5000 OR PANASONIC DMP-BD30K TO GET 1.1

I don't think it can be, I'm not 100% sure but if I had to bet I would say no. Samsung has said that the Samsung BD-UP5000 will be profile 1.1 and this player isn't going to be out till december. Sony is not saying what profile S500 is, and it's shipping right now. I've been reading about the BD-UP5000 and it looks pretty good. They say it has all the required hardware to be a 2.0 spec. I would pay $1000.00 for a blu-ray player that is profile 2.0 now.

So its a new BR player thats not as good as a PS3, and without the internet, gaming etc.. No dts-hd ma either, what the hell is that about. Who would buy this thing??

Nice observation .....I got mine last week (on the 17th I think) via FedEx from SonyStyle...It was released on the 15th..I watched movies on it this past weekend. It's hooked up to my 52XBR5...
