Default Germany: MediaMarkt gets rid of HD DVD

There are some reports that the first branches of MediaMarkt, the biggest electronics store in Germany, are already removing HD DVD from their shelves.

They don't put them on sale - they are just removed.

As every MediaMarkt branch is an own company with their own local management, this probably isn't done nation-wide.

According to one store manager, the reason to get rid of HD DVD is because of Warner's move and decreasing sales since then.

So it seems that our insiders are right saying that this will finally be fought out by the retailers.

There was a rumour a while ago that Woolworths would drop them in the UK, I would'nt be surprised if they're next. This is just the beginning.

Not really.
France is where Warner started going Blu (with Blu Ray Partner France), Canal Studio already went Neutral from HD DVD exclu (and I expect them to go Blu exclu any day now). Ratio in France is about 60 Blu - 40 HD DVD.

Found this
http://www.clubic.com/actualite-8242...rs-france.html

Don't have the time for a translation, but basically it presents Gfk numbers that show that between the standalones and the PS3 90% of the HD players in France are Blu Ray, and by Xmas 07 80% of the HD movies released in France were Blu Ray

I work in a Mediamarkt in Belgium ( but in the computers, not DVD section) and there are 7 racks of bluray and 9 of HD DVD.. i don't really get it, cause i see always more people in the Bluray-side.. i guess the manager of that section is a HD-DVD fanboy, but i don't think it's gonna take long anymore before that changes.. I hope all mediamarkts goes Blu-exclusive aswell

Well, actually good news, but....:

#1) There´s only ONE "MediaMarkt" who´s doing this right now...
(hopefully more to come)

#2) I hate this F@#!ing store!

Please correct me if I'm wrong here but I believe the good ol' USA is the country that sports the highest percentage of HD DVD owners among owners of next-gen optical players.
