Ok here is my question, My wife and I just built a house that was prewired for 5.1 surround sound. I have a 52" Samsung 1080p tv with a sony bluray stand-alone player as well as a PS3. I have an older sony receiver that has dolby 5.1 but has no HDMI jacks what so ever. Have the bluray and directv box hooked up with digital coax and optical respectively since I only have one of each. Now comes to my question. Obviously when it comes to home audio, you get what you pay for, we all know that. I was looking at several reveivers at Best Buy in the $3-400 range. Alot of them have at least 2 HDMI in and 1 out, which would be perfect for me. Again the "expert" at Best Buy stated that the receivers in that price range (Sony, Denon, Yamaha) would not do what I want because I need an 800 receiver or else it wouldn't allow for 1080p and that I would not get audio, only video. I've looked thru alot of posts and haven't seen an answer. Sorry if I might have missed it. I would of course LIKE to have a real nice expencive receiver, but having just closed on the house 3 weeks ago, if I brought something like that home it better have a box big enough for me to sleep in, cause thats where the wife would put me. Y'all helped me out and saved me tons of money on HDMI cables so I thought I would fire this off and see what kind of advice you could give..THANKS !!

A lot of cheap receivers with HDMI won't allow 1080p or accept audio over HDMI from a source, that is true. However models to vary by brand and price for those features. You'll just have to do a little research. I do reccommend Onkyo (Integra) or Yamaha for brands.

What speakers would you suggest with this, and what do you think about wireless speakers? |

not answering your question - sorry. Just had to laugh at the experts at best buy comment. They are only trained to read the box.

To be honest, for now, if I could get away with spending $400 or less I'd be happy. Once things settle and the move is all said and done, yes I would like to think about buying all the bells and whistles. I get awesome sound now thru the optical and coax, but think I'm missing something.

amazon.com has been listing this for $339.99 occasionally in the past week or so. Not sure if the shipping is free at that price point, but may be worth waiting for. |

They are really pushing Denon and Pioneer Elite receivers at Best Buy. I told the guy they were out of my price range, and he told me no receiver within my price range will decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA. I told him the Onkyo SR 605, and 705 are within my range, and all he did was talk crap about Onkyo. Jackass.

I think if you shop around and look at some Polk, Infinity, Klipsch, etc. you can find something pretty decent in that price range.

For that reason I cannot stand going to CC or BBy. I do a lot of research before I step into a store to buy something, exp in the electronics area, as everything changed day by day. I personally enjoy my Onkyo 674 (last year model). Just need my PS3 decode the newer audio codec, so I can enjoy my fox movie titles. If i had a few to spend I would surely throw down some money for a 605 or 705 (depending on budget)

Just got the Onkyo 605 from Amazon $339 delivered. You save $$$ if you take the silver one. Worked for me.

Ok I know that this may sound like a stupid question, but 399 for black, 349 for silver.... is that truely the ONLY differance ????
