Default PCM problems with Sony receiver

Does anyone else have a problem getting PCM audio through a Sony receiver? I'm running off model STR-DG800 with 7.1 but the PCM audio won't decode. The amazing masters at Magnolia in Best Buy (no offense to employees there, mine just couldn't help) couldn't give me any answers and didn't even know what PCM stands for. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry I misread your post. Make sure you have your BD player hooked up via HDMI through the reciever. Set the recievers audio format from Auto Detect to PCM. and try that..hopefully it works. Also check if that reciever has Multichannel PCM. It may only go up to 5.1.

I have that receiver and just found out that you can only "pass through" audio to your tv with the hdmi!!!! It's a bunch of crap!!! Misleading by Sony if you ask me. So yeah, you have to run an optical cable....period.

In the manual it states: "When a playback component connected to this receiver and this receiver to the TV by HDMI, the sound is output from the TV speaker only."

Hi there:

I just got rid of my STRDG900 for the same reason. Unfortunately these Sony receivers can only output 2.1 LPCM. I talked to a Sony Tech a few weeks back and he confirmed this.

Sorry you are out of luck! Especially considering most of the new Blu Ray releases are only decoded in Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD.

I just picked up the Pioneer VSX-9120TXH receiver and it is AMAZING!
