PCM problems with Sony receiver - Blu-ray Forum

Does anyone else have a problem getting PCM audio through a Sony receiver? I'm running off model STR-DG800 with 7.1 but the PCM audio won't decode. The amazing masters at Magnolia in Best Buy (no offense to employees there, mine just couldn't help) couldn't give me any answers and didn't even know what PCM stands for. Any help would be appreciated.

That receiver won't handle any hdmi sound processing. It is a pass through only (see the note on top of page 30 of your manual). You'll have to use an optical cable to get any sound, and then the best PCM you will get is 2 channel, not 5.1 or 7.1.

You will need the STR-DG810 or later...

Unless you use the multichannel 7.1 analog inputs on your receiver. That depends on what blu ray player you are using (the ps3 has no multichannel outputs-some of the others do). See page 20 of your manual to hook it all up that way.
