Default Che?

So i see there's a japanese release of Che on june 12th. It says region A, but i was wondering if anyone has any info regarding forced subtitles or the like. Any news on a "proper" stateside release?

It hasn't been confirmed yet if the Japanese release has or doesnt have an english subtitle track. I wouldn't hold much stock in the stats listed on CDJapan and YesAsia. There wasnt any information as far as subtitles go in the initial press release: (http://av.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/n...306_43226.html)

But I don't see why this release wouldn't get an english track since it is a Western film. It's also half in English. And every English film I've ever purchased from Japan has had an english subtitle track. I think we're just gonna have to wait until the 12.

Also not to mention even this very site states that it will have an english subtitle track (https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php?id=4739) So hopefully it does, since this release (JP) looks awesome and we still have 0 confirmation of a US release. All we know is it'll be IFC's first blu-ray release.

I think it might have forced English Subs in the Spanish scenes and then just Japanese Subs for the whole movie (on/off) That's my guess.

I'm also hoping this version is English friendly, but if it isn't I'll be switching my hopes over to the French release, which also looks impressive.

This man WAS a ruthless executioner,a pretty evil man,so why is he so popular with movies about him and his face on T-Shirts that some people seem so proud to wear?!

Because the people who wear those shirts, for the most part, have no idea what he was about. It's actually pretty sad how people can walk around with those shirts on when he was such a brutal and violent man.

However, I heard that Del Toro did an excellent job portraying him, so I will have to give it a look.

Benicio did a FANTASTIC job portraying him, and the direction Soderbergh took was just simply epic, I've only seen Part 1 so I've been waiting for this release for most of the year. But if it happens not to be English friendly, does anyone know if the French or UK release will be Region free?

Also without going into my feelings on Dr. Guevara I do agree that the cliche t-shirt icon he has become is pretty bad mostly considering the fact that 90% of the people wearing have no idea what he was fighting for.

I have seen this great film already twice, once on a movie theater and once on DVD. Hopefully I'll get it on BD.

¡Hasta la victoria siempre!

I've read several books on the guy, but i'm no expert. Yeah, he was judge, jury, and executioner for many of the remaining officials of the corrupt cuban Batista regime. I'm not sure what you would have done it that situation, but i'm sure turning them over to the U.N. or just letting them go wasn't an option and i guess they figured why imprison them. Time was of the essence and their resources were stretched pretty thin. All the great leaders throughout human history were capable of great and terrible things. I mean him and Castro along with 20-30 other ex-patriots took over the whole country of Cuba. Nothing like that has ever been done before or since. If nothing else you gotta respect the balls. Doesn't mean he's my hero, but geez, his life story is pretty amazing and i'm sure it will make a fantastic biopic. Don't see why you can't enjoy a movie about someone you don't particularly care for, especially when you got Del Torro in the lead. I watched Downfall and thought it was great, doesn't mean i think Hitler is "cool."

Gotta agree with you there. Downfall is one of the best WWII movies ever! Bruno Ganz was great!

Sad, that eventually Castro has turned into the ultimate dictator himself, but it's crazy that for almost 50 years he's thumbed his nose at the biggest power on the planet, all the while sitting only 90 miles away. Big-huge-cahonas.

And many of his people live in relative poverty without regular electricity or running water, 90 miles from the richest country in the world whose tourist dollars alone would elevate Cuban citizens to the first world.
Yeah, way to go

Default Che: Parts I and II ???

I rented these on SDVD today from Blockbuster. WOW. Thats all I can say. How did this movie NOT get nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and most importantly Best Actor?!?!? Unreal.
Anyway, is there going to be a blu-ray version available to the US? I know there is a region free version coming to Japan but will it be English friendly? And I know there have been a few threads about this movie already (I created one!) but for whatever reason I am unable to find them when I do a search for "Che"

Thanks!

Looks like Criterion might be releasing Che.

This was the hint in their latest newsletter.

Awesome. I'd rather not watch this on DVD. I can wait for Blu if it's coming.

As for criterion releasing this film, while i have never seen it the reviews are good and i am defiently interested. Crriteron doesnt release crap so this would support the positive reviews, plus they never fail with top notch pq and aq.

"Che Guevara is conventionally depicted either as a saint of revolution, or a ruthless executioner. Steven Soderbergh's epic biography "Che" doesn't feel the need to define him." Roger Ebert

Im glad to hear this
