Default got a problem with upgrading my hard drive...

I just bought a new western digital 500gb hard drive for my PS3. When I switch out the hard drive and fire up the system, it gives me a message that says

"press START and SELECT to search for media containing update data version 2.80"...

I press this and it just says no data found and then repeats the same "press start and select" instruction. Did I miss a step somewhere?!? It's a new PS3 so I didn't bother backing anything up from my 80gb drive. Was there some piece of data that I should've backed up on my thumb drive first before I installed the new hard drive?

Have you tried this?

Don't know if it'll help or not, but that sounds like a related issue.

You need to have Firmware 2.80 on a thumbdrive in the USB.

You can download it from www.playstation.com under PS3>Support>Download Firmware....

You may want to hang on to the HDD...if by some wierd chance the PS3 dies and you need to send it in to Sony they will ask for the factory HDD, or so i have heard.
