I had a problem like this too. The first time I connected with HDMI I thought I fked up because the screen didn't display for like a minute. Just give it a minute or so and wait. If not, try to hold the power for 5 seconds to turn it on, then wait about a minute, and the screen should come up. Don't worry, your setup is probably fine, it just takes longer than standard hook ups.

peace,

This will happened when you buy a new PS3,try to connect it to your LCD through composite first enter display settings and convert it to HDMI output.

Connect it now to HDMI and you are fine all the way.

Thanks for the input. sorry for the brevity of the request.

this OP was from blackberry on Sunday and we were looking for some assistance. I've not yet set mine up yet, but my neighbor was setting his up and ran into this problem. Before he bought an HDMI cable he was using the composite cables, so he called me over to help. Between 3 of us we were unable to get a picture on his Toshiba LCD via the HDMI input. We tried shutting everything down, disconnecting the composites, unplugging everything and all we recieved was a blank screen. We manually set the setting on the PS3 with the composites because we weren't able to view the menu's via HDMI. Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

make sure you're switching your tv setting to hdmi mode. my samsung has, about 6 different modes, one for each input. so, i have 2 hdmi inputs into my tv, one fore digital cable and the other for my ps3.

connect the ps3 with just the hdmi cable and make sure the tv is on the correct setting and you should be good to go.

agreed. you would think right? We set the TV to the HDMI input setting with JUST the HDMI cable connected so there would not be any type of overide and nada. We still trying, I'm sure it's something very simple we're overlooking, but it really should be this complicated if you think about it. I'm blaming the Toshiba TV...just kidding.. Thanks.

The PS3 should be set up to use HDMI, as well as the tv. Make sure it is looking at the right source now that it using HDMI and not composite.
Also, assuming the HDMI cable is not faulty/broken, it could be the port on the TV or AV receiver. See if you can use a different port. My sister had this happen to her computer, we spent months trying to fix the graphics card only to find out the monitor had a bad port.
Finally, HDMI is very picky. I often had certain cable channels go out on me for no reason and come back on when I change the channel. This is due to 2 things, the HDMI cable, and Hi def copy protection.
The HDMI cable will be very likely to go out if it is moved or not in place just right. Some cables probably are better than others at this, but it has been known to happen. Also, some hi def signals use a copy protection that will turn off the signal if it thinks it detects any recording device. It is easily fooled and will turn off the signal if the HDMI cord is not in "just right".
I am not sure this helps at all, but these are a few of the things I could think of.

Make sure the cord is good, make sure the port is good, make sure the tv is set right, make sure the PS3 is set right, make sure the cables are in properly.

Default Maybe the TV setting?

Please note that the TV should also be switched to its HDMI input (using its remote, usually called input select or external input). If the PS3 and the TV are both set to HDMI and holding the PS3 power button down to do a reset, it should sync up.

Once that is running, then you can insert your HDMI A/V receiver if you have one between the PS3 and the TV. The A/V receiver should be set to HDMI output also, preferrably in HDMI pure mode (to let 1080p video through but handle the audio). HDMI passthrough mode will let both the HDMI image and sound go to the TV.

Good luck

Edit: funny CptGreedle, we posted at almost the same time. Great minds think alike ;-)

Good suggestions. We're doing that and the crazy thing is that we're going direct. no rcvr to complicate things...I'll respond when we figure out our dumb mistake...lol

Blackpixels:Yep. did that.

Also, assuming the HDMI cable is not faulty/broken, it could be the port on the TV or AV receiver.

Blackpixels:Tested the cable via another source working properly.

See if you can use a different port.

Blackpixels:Tried both HDMI 1 and 2.

My sister had this happen to her computer, we spent months trying to fix the graphics card only to find out the monitor had a bad port.
Finally, HDMI is very picky.

Blackpixels:Agreed. and we've even sat a waited as sometimes the handshake can be funny.

Blackpixels:From what I can tell it appears to be a pretty good HDMI cable.

Also, some hi def signals use a copy protection that will turn off the signal if it thinks it detects any recording device. It is easily fooled and will turn off the signal if the HDMI cord is not in "just right".

Thanks. I've advised them to contact Sony support. Thanks everyone.

Sorry to hear it didn't work.

It sounds like either it's a PS3 with a bad HDMI port or the TV isn't fully HDCP compliant. You mentioned I believe that it was your neighbor's unit, maybe you could try to bring their PS3 and connect it to your TV.

There is also the infamous issue of the older HDTV that don't do 720p. So you would have to make sure that 720p is not selected as an output choice in the PS3 HDMI configuration.

Yep, you're right. If they don't get the information they need from Sony - We'll try my set-up. Thanks again!

weird problem, got mine hooked up to the LCD screen off the bat, soon as i got the ps3 fresh from the box i got a hdmi and the system asked me if i wanted to use my hdmi output since it detected it....make sure you have the selected input on the hdmi input of the tv...

dumb thing to ask but make sure the HDMI cable is in there alone, since it carrys the entire thing inside it (sound & video)

also, try blowing in the hdmi port on the tv if theres dust, why? (when i put ram inside my computer before it was so dusty it didnt pick up the ram because all the dust was covering the tiny wire panel of the ram chip)
