Or why he chose other directors to direct "his" films, for that matter.

Yup. He's giving away almost his entire fortune to philanthropic endeavors, so clearly he must only care about money....

I’ve seen all 8 episodic films in the theatre as they were released, by far the most theatrical visitation by me over such a period of time...and I like them all.
Are they all perfect? No. They all have their warts, but I like to look past that. I can safely say there is no other major, theatrical film series that spans my lifetime, as good as this franchise. Very much looking forward to IX.
Thank you Star Wars Universe for a lifetime of memories.

Lucas actually signed off on this?! I’m not optimistic enough to think that this means he’s in any way loosening up, but it is interesting news nonetheless...

Almost his entire fortune? I've seen no evidence of that. He has, however, pledged to give away half his wealth when he turns into a Force Ghost.

Look, few people are as critical of many of George’s artistic decisions as I am, but there’s no denying the fact that he’s done a TON to give back to the community, and I give him full credit for that. Hell, didn’t most of the $4 billion from the Disney sale go to charity?

Yup, that's the idea. I'm pretty sure his kids are already taken care of with trust funds. They don't need to have billions, they'd only become spoiled brats.

I’m happy to see my comment about “Star Wars 77 fans” vs. “Star Wars franchise fans” prompted some healthy discussion! I personally am a fan of the franchise, at least the films. I’ve never read the novels or comics, only played a couple of the video games, and have never been to Celebration. I think The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones are bad films but I still look back on them fondly as I remember being young and how hyped everyone was at the time. Solo to me is pretty underwhelming. But Episodes III through VIII and Rogue One? All amazing. (Well, Revenge of the Sith is so campy it’s amazing, but still...)

Fact check:

Quote:
When Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney for just over $4 billion in 2012, his spokesperson said he planned to put the majority of the proceeds toward philanthropic endeavors

Charity begins with restoration of the classic films to their original state.

He intended to donate half of his fortune but the technology to do so didn't exist yet.

Lucas should have altered his double chin rather than his Star Wars films.
