I don't have the time to check back through this thread to see if this has been linked to already, but here's George Lucas heavily criticising altering films and art ......... back in 1988:

http://www.slashfilm.com/george-luca...ng-films-1988/

Going by that, the Lucas of 1988 would label the Lucas of today a 'barbarian'.

Again he was talking about people who alter other people's films, not their own

I vividly remember asking my dad why they hadn't warmed up the death star laser in the 20 minutes it took to fly around the moon to get a clear shot. Why are they standing by I asked? What have they been doing for 20 minutes? Didn't they think they might have to fire and since they had 'analysed their attack and there is a threat' need to hit them first and fast?

If a kid of 6 (showing my age) asked that as I did, I'm glad it has gone.

Some changes amend flaws from the original that never made sense. Others take away what once was perfect.
So, as I have gone to bed, come back and another 100 pages have occured, did anyone agree? Some changes work?

I would like to know the same, seriously 80 pages since the last time I checked. Though skimming through the last 10 pages I still think it is about "Noooo!". Oh well will see if these are truly legit and what we can expect on the Blu's when they arrive.

+1

I agree but it still pretty arrogant of him to make that rousing speech where he says;

"People who alter or destroy works of art and our cultural heritage for profit or as an exercise of power are barbarians"

I don't feel strongly on this, but it's a bit like shooting yourself in the foot, making that massive speech in front of Congress, help set up NFR and now totally angering thousands of fans by distorting your own films.

This, I cannot understand either. I never ever noticed anything off about the Ewoks, but I think everyone noticed the lighsaber synching issues, especially in ANH, and particularly Luke on the Falcon.

They should have gone all the way, and I really hope they have actually fixed it.

The '97 SE Collector's set did have a separate VHS tape with the 30-minute "Making of the Special Edition" feature. In the lower-priced VHS sets, it was broken into three parts over the three tapes.

Who knows, maybe Lucas removed the "Noooooooooo" from Revenge of the Sith to counteract the "Nooooooooooo" in Return of the Jedi

so i've been scouring ebay and amazon.
If you've got a Toys R Us nearby, check them out. Two months ago I was out looking for a gift for my nephew, and both of my local TRU's had multiples of the blue set from 2008. It contains the 2004 SE and UOT version. Our two local stores always have a lot of out-of-print DVD's for some reason. Of course, that may not hold true for all of them. It's this one:

http://www.starwars.com/movies/saga/20080826news.html

Edit-Just checked the set on Amazon. The private sellers with new sets have jacked it up to $106.95 and up.

I'm glad I bought them at Best Buy in the tin 5 years ago.

I'm not sure which is worse...preventing greatness or defacing it.
It wouldn't shock me if he went back to ROTS and put in the new "Nooooo" from Jedi. Adding it to Jedi was unbelievably stupid, but that same "Nooooo" could only improve the unintentional hilarity of the ROTS scene.

HA...... keep dreaming

I'd be surprised if ROTS or AOTC have ANY changes at all - since they are made directly from the 1080p digital source - probably exactly the same as what we have seen previously.

I do hope I'm wrong though. But don't be surprised if there are zero changes to those two. Wonder if there's any more in TPM we don't know about yet...

None of these changes alter character motivations or perspectives and most are purely visual upgrades.

That's fair enough but might there be some critical mass at which fans are no longer being silly but rather are expressing a legitimate complaint? If a sufficient number of fans were to say 'no, this change is kind of important and damages something we value' would they still necessarily be silly or might they by that point be presenting a reasonable viewpoint?

those who have the GOUT DVD, you can do a somewhat lossless x264 encode of it and then add anamorphic widescreen AR. that would be better than watching it in letterbox format.

(someone else made that encode, size is about 1GB and it looks almost identical to the DVD)

I think everyone here is missing the point. The films are supposed to rhyme, you know, it is like a poem.

Therefore, episodes 4,5 and 6 need to be as crap as episodes 1,2 and 3.

Gotta love him, its getting there!

For some reason, people seem to think they can get $50+ for the set of three movies It's pretty ridiculous.

I've replied to some of these ads and sentimental value is always given as a reason for the high price, then why put it up for sale? Like, really...

I wouldn't want to pay more than $6-7 per disc, let alone $50 for the three. I'd be willing to shell out around $30-40 for the Definitive Set, but people want about $100 for that. Although lately i've seen the price begin to drop below $60.
As I said, I wouldn't look now. I'd give it a good 6 months. Prices are probably going to skyrocket.
