Funny enough, it's the best version that Lucas has done since he changed it. Go figure.
It's still a lame change but the - pun fully intended - execution does seem quite a bit better.

I'm waiting for Bill Hunt and Robert Harris to claim that they can't hear the "Noooooooo!"

Yes. It should have never been changed. But, of the three versions of it, this is absolutely the best one.

Again, he drowned out one of the blaster shots to where it sounds similar to how it did in the original audio mix, even if the it's still a shot of them both firing.

They just didn't fix it. It's on the DVD too, but it's a tad smaller and the puppeteer's arm blends with it to some degree. Juts look at the frames before and after, where the puppeteer's arm is not visible (on a computer - on a TV, it may well be in the overscan area).

They didn't have the technology in 1983 to have Vader say "No" a couple of times in that scene. The addition only corrects what George Lucas intended to be there all along.

Just for the record: I didn't pre-order. I never do.

To answer the question: I don't think I will. For me, the original trilogy is an all-or-nothing deal. I'm fine holding on to my VHS* and DVD copies. If there was a proverbial straw that broke the camel's back, these collective changes would be it.

* I don't own a VHS player, so I'm SOL here.

Speculation based on absolutely nothing. The ONLY way there is even a REMOTE chance of seeing the original films is for Lucas to no longer be around.

Yeah, "No's" were really a technology that just became available around 1998 or so. Thank the Force George could recognize his vision in TPM.

Because I don't disagree with the rest of your post. I only disagree with your assertion that Vader's "No" changes the scene. No I don't like the "Nooooo!" in Revenge of the Sith. It was just badly done. I also agree that changing a line in a movie could change a whole character (i.e. Han's "I know" vs. "I love you too").

But Vader's "No!" in Return of the Jedi totally fits his actions and his character. We have always seen him lose it on the Emperor. Now we will see AND hear him lose it on the Emperor. But nothing about that particular scene changes at all.

"I know the New York Times has been reporting it, but I’ve finally gotten word from Lucasfilm. It’s true. All the changes we’ve been obsessing over all day and night.

Yes, the updates are confirmed. We hope fans will wait to see for themselves how they fit into the Saga before making any judgments.

I’ll say, over all, I’m not unhappy about most of the changes (just like the special edition). Ewoks with blinking eyes? Awesome. More creatures in Jabba’s Palace? Sweet. An update on the Krayyt scream? Bring it on. Digital Yoda in Phantom Menace? Perfect.

This is the definitive version of the films on Blu-ray. I’ll wait and see it before I get angry about any specific change. I’ll calm down.

BUT: Though it’s the way it is moving forward, Darth Vader screaming, “Noooooooo!” as he tosses the Emperor into the reactor shaft of the Death Star is incorrect. It’s simply not a good change. It’s on the level of Han firing first. No, I think it’s worse. No, I know it’s worse. There was never a moment more heartbreaking or poignant than putting the audience in Vader’s shoes and forcing us to think about what’s running through his mind. Giving him something to say somehow undermines every sweeping bit of emotion that scene had. It interrupts it. Will I feel differently about it when I see it in context? Maybe. But right now I feel pretty hurt by it.

I don’t think I need to explain to any of you how much I LOVE Star Wars, and this will not diminish my love for it in anyway. I just hate seeing people better than me make mistakes like this.

Having said that, I’m still gladly buying these sets on Blu-ray. I’m still going to watch every minute of the films and every minute of bonus features. And I’m going to see the films in 3D when they happen as well.

Vader screaming no will simply be added to a list of flaws I don’t like about the updates of the film. It stands next to Greedo firing first, Jedi Rocks, and Jabba’s CGI work in A New Hope. Sure, it might be more major than those, but it’s a small list of things that simply won’t–can’t–outweigh my love of the world that’s been created.

No matter how upset anyone might get about any of these changes, it’s important to remember this is George Lucas’ world. He can (and does) do anything he wants with it. If you don’t like what he does with subsequent releases, don’t buy them. But don’t attack him or diminish the role he played in bringing us these stories in the first place. He deserves our respect for that. To that end, I’ll be deleting any comments below that aren’t constructive or are attacks on me as the messenger, or anyone involved in making these changes."

So we are supposed to shell out $90 to decide that we in fact hate it? No thanks.

There has been a lot of mention about the 'standby......standby' being lost in the audio mix at the end of ANH when the Death Star is about to fire at Yavin. Seriously, this never, ever made sense to me, even as a kid watching it. I vividly remember asking my dad why they hadn't warmed up the death star laser in the 20 minutes it took to fly around the moon to get a clear shot. Why are they standing by I asked? What have they been doing for 20 minutes? Didn't they think they might have to fire and since they had 'analysed their attack and there is a threat' need to hit them first and fast?

If a kid of 6 (showing my age) asked that as I did, I'm glad it has gone.

Some changes amend flaws from the original that never made sense. Others take away what once was perfect. Still buying it though, it would be a sin to my home theatre not to have the falcon blasting away from Hoth cranked WAYYYYY up alongside Williams asteroid field score.

I can get over 2 words being added, seems most can't. Ces't la vie.

But that's a personal attack!

If it really happened, it would be funny. But for some reason I feel like they will dislike it.

It probably won't make a dent in making a change to the BR, but I suggest those that are angry at what Lucas is doing go vent. Do what I did: post a one-star negative review on Amazon.com. Do it for both the full series and the OT boxset. Be polite, don't be explicit spouting foul language, but explain exactly why you won't be buying this set, and urge everyone to boycott the release. Who knows... it could force Lucas to change his mind.

Those running times are 49 min. longer in total. Maybe GL has incorporated all the extended/deleted scenes back into the PT for this release. That's about the same time that was listed for those scenes. Another 45 min. or so for the OT. It would be easier for the PT since the material is in better shape and will blend in unlike the OT.

Exclamation Wow!

This thread has gone to hyperdrive!!

Can anybody please tell what's the matter?

I read on here that BD rips leaked, and all hell broke loose,

I don't want any spoilers, but has it been 100% confirmed that those are rips of the official, upcoming, BDs???

Can we have a summary or sth., as I can't read through more than 100 pages of outcries, after recording 12 hours.

Thanks in advance.

PS: Please use spoiler tags...
