He even sat for a commentary on the Simpsons episode in which he was featured. Quite funny too.

How awesome is Shadows of the Empire, right? The book, game, comic, soundtrack. Top notch. I have such fond memories of when it was released, playing the game, reading the book and comic, and listening to the awesome soundtrack.

Now that's a blast from the past.

Shadows Of The Empire, Rogue Squadron and the VHS's of the 1997 Special Editions of the OT were my introduction to Star Wars back in the day.

Great stuff.

That's not really the way the IP Licensing business works. I doubt that Universal is producing that merchandise themselves. More likely, they're buying that merchandise at wholesale from a licensee of Marvel. That licensee is guaranteeing Marvel's owner guarantees and royalties for each line of products. The guarantees may be broken down by territory and/or product line or type. Usually there's also an overall guarantee per contract as well. So assuming that Disney owns the rights to those Marvel characters, it's the licensee who is paying Disney for the merchandise, not Universal. As to the rights to use the characters on attractions in the park, that's a different story.

I watched it as a kid, but didn't really get into it until 1995 when they released the THX tapes and started collecting the Power of the Force figures and reading the comics and books. That period between 1995 and 1999 were just so much fun...before I came online.

Rogue Squadron! Holy hell does that bring back memories! That game was so badass. My favorite game is still Jedi Knight though. I played that so much on single player and online. All of the custom maps were great.

I think there's something else: although before "American Graffiti" and "Star Wars", he had given up on an acting career and went back to carpentry, once "Star Wars" and "IJ" happened, I think he thought he was going to have the kind of acting career that wins awards. And while he's had a great career, he's not considered to be a great actor. Most recently, he's made some really bad choices in films (although he's been paid well for them). I'm thinking of films like "Ender's Game" and "Cowboys & Aliens" ("42" was an exception - he did great as Branch Rickey). And he's made films in recent years that I've barely heard of: "Crossing Over", "Extraordinary Measures", "Morning Glory" and "Paranoia".

So I think especially after those recent films, "Star Wars" is looking pretty good to him (or at least it did before they broke his foot). And it's probably a really, really big payday. It's very hard to turn down that kind of money for six-months of work even if you didn't really want to play that character again - and since the character is now far older, perhaps he's also "wiser" and more to Ford's liking.

But having said that, I doubt he now wants to talk about the OT. When I've seen him on talk shows, he's never seemed comfortable.

Would that be the 2nd one you're referring too?

Jedi Outcast where you play as Kyle Katarn?

If so than OMG I still actually have my PC copy of it which I got over a decade ago.

That game kicks ass.

Jedi Outcast was awesome and I played that a lot too, but I'm referring to Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, released in 1997 on PC.

Oh right.

Dark Forces II is a great game as well.

My favourite Star Wars game to date though has to be a toss up between Battlefront II and KOTOR.

I can't decide which I prefer between the two.

You're watching a 60s series with 90s (or I don't know when) effects?
Totally inconsistent.

One of the first things I learned about art, is that it should have consistency!!
The difference is that with Trek, at least they tried to make the effects somewhat match the style of the time. Granted they were not 100% successful as you are still doing it for a modern audience but they didn't go over the top with it too badly where was with Star Wars, there seemed to be no thought if it fit or not. Plus they were not consistent with what they fixed - they changed one thing that really didn't need it but left others that should have been fixed(lightsabers anyone?). With Trek, they knew they had to fix all but with Star Wars, it is like they sat down with Lucas to watch the film and he was like a child saying "need that fixed, oh need that changed, ...". If it caught his eye at that time, it was changed.

Yeah, the Battlefront games were a blast too. Never got into KOTOR. RPG's aren't my thing.

Anyone remember Super Star Wars? Holy hell, was that game a pain in the ass.

Indeed.

With the Star Trek blu rays the special effects are merely recreated to look sharper, not changed. Some of the TOS stuff is borderline, admittedly, but none of it goes as far as any change Lucas made to plot, style, length, etc. The Star Wars movies were changed fundamentally, Star Trek wasn't.

It's a very simple thing to offer consumers a choice of which version to watch. Every other blu ray of a classic movie with multiple versions does this, to my knowledge, and yet the biggest film franchise of all does not. It's ridiculous.

I'd at least like to see a better transfer of Phantom Menace (guessing AOTC and ROTS can't look any better considering since they were shot early digital).

The biggest memory I have of "Star Wars" in the Summer of 1977, is of seeing the characters at the Ripley's Believe It Or Not Wax Museum in Gatlinburg, TN. C-3PO & R2 were there as well.
